Wouldn’t Recommend
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I scheduled my site survey to evaluate a few projects I wanted to complete after I purchased my new home. 1. I purchased the Sonos Connect AMP/Sonance outdoor speaker bundle for my deck and wanted Best Buy to mount the speakers and run the cable to my second story office where I would be placing a network cabinet. 2. Move the existing deck speakers to the garage and running speaker cable to the second story office for another Sonos Connect AMP. 3. Mount two Sonos Play 5’s in the corners of my family room so that the cords would be concealed cleanly. I had purchased the mounts from Best Buy. 4. Run two network cables from the second story office to opposite rooms in the house for placement of two UniFi AP’s (Pro and LR). 5. Consultation on in ceiling speakers in living room for future project. As a little background on myself, I am a Solution Architect for a consulting company. I make my living recommending solutions to various enterprise clients in the ERP space. I am highly capable at evaluating products and solutions for my own consumption. I frequently recommend solutions to family, friends, and co-workers. In most instances, I’m also capable at performing the work myself. In this situation, I wanted to defer these projects so I could focus on moving into my new home without taking additional time off work. Prior to the Double Agent arriving, I received a call from him to review what I was wanting to do. Upon mentioning the mounting of the Play 5’s, he said he would not be able to perform the work and said I would need to talk to an electrician. I understand that Best Buy is not suited for electrician type work, but the agent had already made a decision without stepping into my home. Not the best start. Upon arriving, we discussed the Play 5 install and what would be needed from the electrician. What soured me was that he recommended replacing my Sonos Play 5’s with Play 1’s because they were smaller. I own every product that Sonos makes. There is no comparison between 1’s and 5’s. In addition, I already own the 5’s for the family room and had the mounts on order from Best Buy. Moving to the living room, I described that I wanted to think about in ceiling speakers at some point. He said that wouldn’t be possible because of the age of the house. It would require cutting a large access hole in the ceiling and I should just consider buying Sonos speakers to be placed in the room. Moving to the deck, he said there wouldn’t be an issue with mounting the speakers, but recommended putting the Connect AMP on the screen porch (exposed to heat, humidity, cold, and moisture). Upon asking why they couldn’t be ran upstairs to the office, he said it wouldn’t be something he could do. The following day, the cable company ran a new coax cable to the office with no issue, following the path I had intended. Moving to the garage, he was confident he could move and mount the old deck speakers, but recommended mounting the Connect AMP upside down on the garage ceiling (also exposed to the elements). In my office, I explained that I needed two network cables ran to opposing rooms in the house to support the two PoE UniFi AP’s. The Double Agent wasn’t familiar with Ubiquiti or their line of products and said what I really needed was a Linksys Velop system. I don’t want to knock Velop, Ubiquiti is Enterprise grade hardware and more than adequate for my home usage. Velop is consumer grade. There is a massive difference. Upon stating to the Double Agent that I was content staying with Ubiquiti, he stated he would not be able to run the network cable to my locations. I found this hard to believe, since co-workers of mine run cable in difficult locations all the time for clients. At the end of the site survey, he said he would provide a report to me within a couple days. I have yet to receive the report. Overall, I was highly dissatisfied with the experience. I didn’t feel that the Double Agent was knowledgeable about the products I was interested in or how to implement them. I understand that a single employee isn’t going to know the entire breadth and depth for every product or technology, but I felt he was more interested in selling me something else that was easier to setup for him. I also felt he was looking to install things as easily as possible instead of installing solutions correctly. For instance, I question why he would recommend placing a $500 Sonos Connect AMP on a screen porch or in a garage. It’s very common for that equipment to be centrally located inside the house where the equipment isn’t subjected to unnecessary weather or humidity. I felt he wanted to install that way because it would be easier for him and require less work. I’m not sour on the consultation process (I’m a consultant too), just sour on the consultant I received.
