Thermostat does not work properly

The heater does not turn on when it is colder in the room the the thermostat is set to. It also doesn’t shut off when I know it has hit the temp it’s set at as well. It also blows cold air for far too long after it hits the temp.

I feel like you can maybe use this in a small bathroom? If that. It's a bit noisy but I can overlook that. It scared me so much to have it running because the electrical cord would get so hot, down to the connection in the outlet. A heater that overheats? I also had to keep it directly pointed at me when I slept. My room is no larger than 250sq ft that's for sure.
