It keeps its promises
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve heard folks say that smart, remotely controlled thermostats such as the Honeywell Smart Color Thermostat are just for the lazy. Nope. They also are for people who have mobility issues, who need to control a system from miles away, or who just want a home that is more comfortable and more energy efficient. I had our regular HVAC fellow install the Honeywell Smart Color Thermostat while he was here for our autumn checkup, so I cannot speak to how difficult or easy it is to install. However, he told me he had put this unit in his own home and has begun recommending it to customers for its ease of use, its tendency to lower usage costs, and the fact that Honeywell thermostats have proved dependable. Now that it is installed in my home, this thermostat has delivered as promised. The first promise kept was how easy it is to get all the bells and whistles up and running, beginning with connecting to Wi-Fi, creating a Total Connect Comfort account, and registering the unit online (all needed to control the unit remotely). Next came selecting the Mode—Heat, Cool, Off, and my favorite: Automatic. I know this isn’t the only thermostat that can select whether to activate the heating or cooling system, but it’s the first one in my house, and now my house HVAC is functioning more like the system in my car. Next came establishing the schedules, and for that this unit has great range and flexibility. You can opt for “I’ll do it myself,” use the preset schedules, or begin with the preset schedules and make whatever adjustments you want. There are lots of combinations and setting options. One thing our HVAC guy urged me to try is setting the fan to Circulate. On Circulate, the fan comes on periodically – without heating or cooling – to distribute and mix the air. This helps even out the temperature and humidity differences that develop within and among rooms between heating and cooling cycles. This not only increases comfort, but also the time between heating or cooling cycles. And, because a fan uses less energy than a heating/cooling unit, that’s money saved. I knew I would like the Automatic feature of this thermostat, but our HVAC folks touted its “smart” feature. I was able to set my old thermostat to maintain a particular temperature for a specific time interval. If that meant raising or lowering the temperature at the start of that interval, the old thermostat would turn the system on a set number of minutes ahead of time – whether it actually needed that much time to attain the correct temperature or not. In contrast, the Honeywell Smart Color Thermostat “learns” how long my system takes to reach a given temperature and doesn’t waste energy turning the system on too soon. Finally, the Honeywell Smart Color Thermostat has adjustable security settings. If you are worried that a child, an impaired adult, or anyone else might change the unit’s settings, you can lock the settings and set a password for access. I guess a talented hacker could override that, but I don’t view my house as a likely hacker target.

Easy to use Wi-Fi thermostat
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is my first upgrade to a Wi-Fi thermostat from an old Honeywell circular thermostat. We didn't need to upgrade, but it seemed like a good way to save some extra cash. There are a few things I need to address right off the bat for older home owners. Setting up the new thermostat is easy, but you may have some issues if you're hooking this up to an older furnace. Long story short, the previous owners did not splice the heating/AC wires correctly and a fuse blew. I had to get someone to come out and fix the wiring (I am not good with this sort of thing). If you aren't sure about doing it yourself, consult with your local HVAC company. Replacing the thermostat is very easy and I would say that anyone can do this. Before you start unhooking everything and getting excited, make sure you take pictures of your old setup! This will help troubleshoot any problems you may have. As you can see in the attached photo, replacing an older, bigger thermostat might reveal some touch ups you'll have to do on your wall, but that's not Honeywell's fault. The thermostat powered on and setup is very simple. For some reason mine was defaulted to Spanish, but I my limited knowledge on Spanish was enough to figure out how to change this. The display on the thermostat is a good size and easy to read. You can change the colors of the theme to select color palettes and even create your own custom one. You can set up a weekly schedule for your house. You can set the heating and cooling temperatures, set times for when you're home and when you leave for work, and there's a vacation mode that you can set. There are more features, but these are the basics that suit our needs (for now). The touchscreen on the thermostat is colorful and responsive. You don't have to repeatedly tap on the screen for options and it doesn't require pressing with great force. The display is large enough that you can see the numbers and details, none of the text was too small for my eyes. There is also an app you can download for your smartphone to keep an eye on things remotely, change schedule settings, adjust the temperature, and it even has a microphone so that you can speak into the app to adjust settings. The only complaint I have with the app is that it looks too big on my iPhone 6S Plus screen. It would look nicer if the resolution of the app fit into that screen, but this is a minor complaint. Overall, we have not had any issues with this thermostat working on our 30 year old furnace. If you're looking to upgrade to a Wi-Fi thermostat, I would highly recommend this. Honeywell also has videos and instructions online, along with phone support all week in case you need help.

Nice and convenient

In my house, the thermostat is on the first floor while my office is on the second floor. Now I can use my phone to control the temperature so I don't have to run up and down the stairs all the time. It's also easy to program. Installation was easy since I already had a "C" wire in place that provides the power this needs. It also looks nice - clean and modern but not like some kind of spacehsip.

Smart Temperature Control

We had issues with employees and customers changing the settings on our previous manual thermostats. With the Wi-Fi Smart Color Thermostat, you can simply set a password that keeps others from changing your thermostat program on the front panel. You can of course enter your password at the thermostat to access the menus. What I truly like about the Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostat is the ability to manage simply from your mobile, tablet or computer (love the fact you can use any of your devices and not locked into a Mobil App). The new RTH9585 Thermostat also has Voice Control. Your Local weather forecast is shown on the display panel, Kudos for adding this helpful feature! Big Plus of the Wi-Fi App or Internet interface is the ability to manage all your thermostats from one App Menu. Now I can manage both home and business sites from one menu! Thermostat has a wide range of scheduling modes, you can set occupancy mode for businesses, as well as Smart-Response Learning which learns to set optimal temperature control. The Honeywell Network is secure and has been highly stable for the years we have been using the Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostat technology. Instructions for installation are simple and clear to follow. Do read the specs and requirements for the unit. Love our Honeywell, been serving us well for years. P.S. For the decorators you can change the screen background color to match your decor, which is quite cool.

Beautiful and functional
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Honeywell Smart Color internet connected thermostat is a well designed device with an astetically pleasing and very user friendly user interface. You can choose a variety of colors for the led display to Match your decor. Programming is a breeze. You need to first set up an account with Honeywell. The guided setup will walk you through creating a schedule for your home, you can also choose manual mode. You will also be asked what type of system you have, usually this is not a problem unless you have a split combo unit like me! Mine is a heating pump with a gas pack for heat..hmm what works for that? Forced air! If I choose heat pump heat comes on when the themostat says cool. After you have the right settings the themostat works flawlessly. You will either have to install the thermostat yourself or have a heating and air tech do it. The installation is very easy. There are also videos on YouTube. You need to have a power wire, the "C" wire if you don't you will have to use one of many solution for this. Honeywell has support to help. This themostat is internet connected there is an Android and iPhone app as well as an Alexa skill for remote control of the device. Voice control with your Amazon Alexa enabled device is cool! (That was a themostat pun) The device also shows the current indoor and outdoor temp and humidity on the home screen. I really like this it is a vast upgrade from our manual themostat and I no longer have to change the temp on waking and leaving my home with the added plus of being able to set the temp if I am coming home early from my smart phone.
