We were really excited about the different settings but the noise that randomly comes and goes is outrageously loud and you can't hear anything over it. You cannot open the fan without a special drill bit so we have no way of even attempting to fix it.

Worst ever sad to say

However, this new one I bought Twice.. and Retuned because it was so loud! It sounded like a freight train! I am disappointed as I really like my first one and wanted another. Way too noisy for me.

We asked too much of this fan considering it's summer in Ca. It would probably do alright if you had temps in the 70's. You can't really feel it a few ft away so how could it cool you? I don't know about a small room, but maybe.
