Customers are saying

Customers highly value the affordability, user-friendly interface, lightweight design, and ample storage space of the 15.6" Laptop. However, they express significant dissatisfaction with its slow performance, particularly when it comes to gaming. Some users also mention the need for more RAM and find Windows 10 to be challenging to use.

    Great project laptop

To start, DO NOT BUY this laptop if you want something that works right out of the box. It is so painfully slow that you won't believe that they would actually sell it with a straight face. It's horrible. However, with a few simple, cheap upgrades it becomes a remarkably snappy laptop. As others have posted here, the first thing you want to do is reinstall windows. This is almost mandatory. The second is to buy another 4 gig stick of RAM. The third is to buy an SSD. I got a compatible 4 gig stick for $42 and a 120 gig Patriot Burst SSD for $36. So, for less than $80 I turned this pathetic brick into a computer that boots up and runs just as fast as my other $1000 laptop for most basic tasks. The bottom line is that this is the laptop you want to buy if like to tinker around with buying cheap laptops and upgrading them. Period. Do not buy it if that's not who you are.

    Understand what you're buying

Wanted to comment on this product since I'm seeing two very different opinions on it - and both are correct First group - "out of the box this computer is not very good". I completely agree. It had a budget cpu with a budget amt of ram that won't get you far. Not to mention a 5400rpm hdd (with plenty of bloatware) that is very slow. Second group - "this thing is fine if you put a bit of work in to it." I also completely agree. With a ssd this thing immediately sees a noticeable boost in performance. If the 4bg of ram is a hindrance to your multitasking, it can be upgraded to an 8gb stick (only 1 slot for ram so be careful - the ram needs to be replaced, not added). Also beware that if you do want to try and upgrade this, you'll need to remove the screws that are underneath the lines of runner that hold the laptop to the surface - that's important. In summary, don't get this unless you (or someone you know) is comfortable working with computers. The ssd and removal of bloatware are the biggest things in my opinion. I purchasd this for me, upgraded it with an ssd, and he loved it :)

    Processor, Slow

    Far from great

First off, I just wanted a low cost Windows computer that had a CD ROM drive, would get on the internet, have a word processor program and attach a printer. Well I got that, and nothing more. This computer takes 3-4 minutes to boot up, 2 minutes to log in and a minute each to open the internet and/or MS Word and Excel. Any other app like facebook takes even longer. One of the Windows updates took 6 hours to complete. It's painfully slow, the processor and fan runs at full speed most of the time, the keyboard is junk, the touchpad is totally useless (I had to buy an external mouse), and there aren't even lights on the keyboard telling you when the number locks or caps lock is on. If it weren't for the processor spiking most of the time, you wouldn't even know when the PC is on because there's no power light either. So, yes, I got what I wanted, but I absolutely hate this computer.

    Ok Laptop once bloatware removed

    Posted .

Like many of the other reviews stated, this thing is SLOW the first time you start it up. Can be a decent light/moderate use laptop after you remove all the bloatware. Entire process from first startup to removal of all unnecessary programs and multiple restarts to finally just using it for everyday use took about 2 hours. If you have a clean version of Windows 7 and know how to install it on newer computers without bricking it, I have a feeling this laptop would run excellent on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Finally, if you are gifting this to someone, do them a favor and remove all the crap from it first.

A poor laptop with abysmal performance.

Got this new for my late wife just for browsing, Facebook and going to websites such as our bank. Out of the box, plenty of bloatware to remove. Even after removing the crap, this laptop struggles with minimal use. Multiple tabs on Edge AND an open Word doc... forget it. You could drop more ram or even a better harddrive, but why? Just spend a little more for a better laptop. Got her an Acer Chromebook and she was HAPPY.

    Typical HP garbage

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

To be honest, I wouldn't have even bought this pile of garbage, except that I was in a bind and needed to replace a dying computer right away. First off, it's an HP. That alone should be the first warning sign. HP uses the worst and cheapest components available, so you're looking right off at a machine which is essentially disposable, the Bic lighter of computers. The AMD processor is slow, weak, generates excessive heat, lacks the power to multi-task, draws on too much of the disk...I know a computer isn't any good when it uses--consistently--upwards of fifty percent of the processor and, also consistently, seventy-five percent of the disk just in normal operations. The computer comes with HP's usual amount of bloatware, and, even if you try to uninstall the McAfee suite and replace it with other anti-virus and security software, most of it cannot be removed. As well, the HP specific bloatware is apparently non-removable. This further serves to slow the machine down. It runs Windows 10. Microsoft hasn't released a decent OS since Win98. Those built on the NT platform are pretty poor, and 10 is no exception. 10 takes a long time to boot with a fast processor, and is practically running backwards with the AMD on this computer. The processor slowness combined with the slowness of the software makes for a frustrating time in using this machine. Positive comment: It isn't expensive, so you get what you pay for--a cheap, semi-functional laptop to use as a stopgap until you can afford something better and faster. Do yourself a favor and pass this one by.
