    Wonderful 2-in-1 Laptop

I bought this computer for school, but intended to use it for personal and entertainment use as well. I needed a computer to replace my old laptop, but also be lighter, more powerful, and have a lot of storage. For my needs, the HP Split X2 13-r010dx is perfect. Unlike most 2-in-1's, this particular model has a hybrid HDD. This means that it has a 500GB HDD for regular use, but also has the OS (Windows 8.1) on an 8GB SSD. Because of this, the computer has a ton of storage, but also boot in under 30 seconds. The processor (Intel i3-4012Y 1.5Ghz) runs most programs well, and can even play a few games, like Team Fortress 2, fairly well at medium settings. It heats up a little bit, but nothing major, and gives the computer decent battery life. Occasionally, it will slow, and some programs crash, but it isn't very often, and you can optimize it for performance if you wish. My only other complaint is that the henge is a bit creaky, and the button used for detaching the tablet from the keyboard is a bit loose. It's more a nagging worry than an actual problem, and I can hold the device upside down from the keyboard, without it detaching. The touchscreen is amazingly responsive, which is very important with this computer. The "Beats Audio" speakers are a bit underwhelming. I understand that they are on a tablet, and are geared toward specific genres, but I expected a tad bit more. Don't get me wrong, they sound better than most computer speakers, but they aren't amazing. All in all, if you need a computer for business, school, or everyday light use, I would highly recommend trying this computer. On the keyboard side, the keys are a bit less springy than I would have liked, but still very easy to use, and the track pad is responsive and easy to click. Even as I write this review, I'm in love with it.

    disappointing laptop

My husband purchased the laptop for Christmas. I have a hp laptop that he purchased for me 5 years ago. I was ready for an upgrade but I'm still attached to my laptop. I was excited but yet scared because it is a big change from windows 7 to 10, my husband has a surface and its just not for me I'm kinda old school I wanted a real laptop. To make a long story short, I opened the laptop updated windows 10 it took for ever. Then I started exploring the laptop and it was not to bad, what I did notice it was slow compared to my 5 year old laptop. Then I shut it off for the day then it wouldnt start properly till the 3rd time. The internet was slow and all my other devices home were working fine. Not to my expectations. Please dont purchase this, when I went to return it, I saw a bunch of open box return from this product. I guessing other people were not satisfied.

    Best price in its class

First and foremost it's important that everyone does extensive research prior to buying any laptop. All laptops are built and designed for different purposes. With that being said, as a writer, I was looking for something compact, plenty of HD space, descent size screen, with a good keyboard. After spending hours online searching, then spending hours at my local Best Buy comparing laptops, I went with this HP Split and couldn't have made a better decision. The i3 processor is more than enough power to handle my basic word processing, researching, and Microsoft office necessities. It's even pretty good with running some games. The 13.3" size screen is perfect. The 11.6 screen laptops were personally too small and 15.6 is not really considered compact. The 500gb hd is more than enough storage space and the 8gb hybrid hd is an added bonus that allows you to fully run Windows in tablet mode (a feature that is rare in tablets this price#. Me being a writer, the keyboard was very important. The keyboard in the store model was good, but not great #I preferred the Lenovo keyboards# but it did the job and was comfortable enough for my long fingers. #The keyboard of my actual laptop was much better than the one in the store). The tablet works flawlessly, it has a good weight, but do not expect it to be as light as an Ipad.. I am a 6'2 200lb male and workout often, so the weight isn't a big deal and shouldn't be for any teenager or adult. The only flaw in this laptop to me is the design and by that I mean the tablet is heavier than the base. Still, that wasn't a deal breaker because you can have the laptop fully open on a flat surface, and it won't tip over without some assistance. Even when using the laptop on my lap, it won't tip over, barring I'm sitting with my legs at a 90 degree angle. My initial price range was $400. However, after seeing everything I got with this computer, it was well worth the extra $140-$150. Oh, it also has Beats audio, and I've read some reviews where people weren't impressed with the sound, but I was actually impressed with the sound of this compact laptop. This is by far the best laptop I've ever purchased.

    Plagued by glitches

From the start, this PC has had disruptive issues. The first major issue, is that about half the time the 'tablet,' is detached and re-attached, the cursor would not be usable from the mousepad, only the screen, unless the PC is turned off and turned on again. Needless to say, I've stopped using it as a tablet entirely. Another issue I encounter frequently is if the PC is on and then closed, it will not turn on again when opened, forcing me to hold down the power button to start it again, and it usually takes longer than normal to start. Obviously anything open at the time would be closed and any work or information lost. The other additional issue that is more of a nuisance than anything, is very frequently when I move the cursor quickly, the side bar and clock will pop out, forcing me to click somewhere on the screen to remove it. Additionally, there is nothing significant about the sound system, so don't be conned by the 'Beats Audio,' branding. If you are looking for a reliable PC/Tablet combo, you may want to look elsewhere, as this is a typical example of something trying to be two things and being mediocre at both.

im still in the learning stages of the new Microsoft Windows system, and navigating through it all, but I am finding it less complicated every time i use it. I would definitely choose Microsoft product again. I also would recommend HP for laptop purchase, except next purchase I would include an internal CD/DVD drive.

    Great Laptop/Tablet

First of all, I love this thing although I wasn't sure about it right off the bat. I use it for light gaming to kill time between classes (collage student) and for class work. The first issue I had with this product is the touch screen, day one the touch feature stopped working. Needless to say I was disappointed. Some time on google informed me that there was a BIOS update that could help me, a quick look on HP's website and I found what I was looking for. The BIOS updated quickly and I have not had an issue with it since. Following this I made sure everything else was up to date using the tool provided by HP on the computer. Now for the positives. This laptop is quick and responsive, not bad for an i3. It will handle any indie game and even plays games like Civ V without any problems. I mostly use it for class work and watching netflix when i'm bored. The screen is clear and sharp although its not full HD it is still 720p. Once again it is a very nice laptop/tablet for the money and the extra money for the solid state model may be a great feature for some but shouldn't be a problem for the casual user. Experience: Built my own desktop for gaming, third laptop owned.

webcam is defective, no longer purchasing HP products due to HP support unable to help. When I tried doing a BIOS update the laptop constantly froze (and I had NO files taking up room what so ever...this is completely brand new) and it stayed frozen until the battery died. If your not expecting alot out of a laptop I would recommend it but, if you want the updates to run smoothly and if you use skype alot (like I do), I wouldn't recommend this product.

    HP Split x2 Laptop Disappointment

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this laptop 3 months ago and from the beginning, it didn't meet basic requirements that I think most laptop owners have. This HP laptop replaced my 2-year-old Toshiba that cost less than $400 new, and it worked much better at the end than this one does now. The primary issue with this HP Split is it operates slowly. I'm talking about just booting up and navigating the desktop, not even browsing the Internet. For some odd reason, you have to hold down the power button for at least 15 seconds for it to turn on. I've never encountered that before. There's often a second delay after I click or touch an icon or button. The touch screen also randomly stopped functioning temporarily. I checked to make sure it was turned on, and it was. Then, a week or so later, its capability sprung back to life. Also, just opening programs or switching from applications doesn't happen immediately as it should (and has with previous laptops I've had). And needless to say, the Internet speed is also slow at times. Just opening a new tab sometimes causes pause for my laptop. I don't believe it's the actual connection, because I'm currently living in S. Korea, where the Internet is supposedly the fastest in the world. In addition, the battery drains very quickly. After being fully charged, removed from the charger and left in sleep mode for about 10 hours, the battery is dead. I never had that issue with my Toshiba. I thought sleep mode conserved power. This laptop seems to run like a 4-year-old computer with a full memory or as if it has 20 programs running simultaneously. I know I bought a mid-range laptop, but I think even the lower-end models should be faster than this one is. This was the first HP product I ever bought, so it's my only experience with the brand. Maybe the problem isn't the computer; maybe it's the processor or the operating system or perhaps the Beats Audio, which is prominently branded on the frame of the screen. I have no clue. In any case, I'm disappointed with this product (which is wholly HP), and I doubt I'll ever buy an HP laptop again.

I really like this laptop I was looking for one that could be detached and used as a tablet too. It's easy to figure out and get things done on its a little bulky but not so bulky that it hinders use or gets in the way. The sound is awesome with the beats built in sounds great for being small speakers. The touch screen is very responsive and works well. Overall I'm very happy with it.

I bought this after the toshiba I had died twice in 4 months. This one was Ok but started acting up after about 6 months. You had to connect and disconnect the tablet then fiddle with the on and off button. Well I upgraded to windows 10 and I lost my ability to use my printer. This was an unsolvable microsoft issue. A few weeks after that the unit is dead . Doesn't turn on at all. Do not upgrade this to windows 10. My friend had the exact same issue with this computer. This is not a reliable product. That's probably why it's on closeout.

Well my first thing is don't listen to the sales people at beavercreek bestbuy. He sold me something that I hate. And is was over priced. I think it's slow. And I hate windows 10. I just want a normal desktop. I just had a really bad experience. I'm not tech savvy. And I just found this computer to be more complicated then it needed to be. Last time I go to bestbuy to get a computer.

    Worst Laptop / Tablet

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This has to be the worst laptop I've ever had. I've always had great luck with HP but not this time. I only gave it 1 star because it's convenient to detach the screen and take it on the go and use it like a tablet. However, the tablet is VERY heavy when you detach it. When the laptop is open attached to the keyboard the screen is too heavy and it falls back all the time when sitting on a soft surface. The touch pad is the worst ever!! It's not quick to respond and sometimes it's too sensitive to touch and starts clicking everywhere and don't try to use it while highlighting because it's the worst! Other times I use the laptop for school papers and when I'm using the touch pad it doesn't move the cursor when I touch click. The sound is not as big as they say it is with the "beats audio". It's an okay sound. The WORST part about this laptop is the BATTERY!!! It gives me only 1 or 2 hours of stand alone time if that!!! I have to keep my laptop charging every single time I use it!!! I bought this for $500 or so and it's NOT worth the money at all!!!! Oh yes, one more thing, less than 2 months of having this BRAND NEW laptop, I had a dotted vertical line across the screen!!!! I had to speak to HP techs and they still could NOT fix it!

Loved the design of this laptop. From the first day I got it it started giving me issues after I upgraded to Windows 10 where it was repeatedly restarting. I took it back and got a new one and this time it would say that I upgraded to Windows 10 but showing me windows 8. I really thought I would love this laptop but I hate it. This was all within the first 2 weeks so I took it back.

    Don't buy from HP

THIS IS NOT AGAINST BEST BUY. I had this computer ordered from Best Buy online as a replacement for an earlier model of the same computer. Upon receiving this, I found out it didn't have the hard disk drive installed properly and Therefore the computer won't boot up. The people you have to call to fix this problem are rude, they threaten to hang up on you and lie about their tech support call center times. Then they tell you it may be weeks before you get it back. Straight out of the box, it doesn't flippin work! I'm not sure why I got another HP as a replacement, since the original that this is a replacement for did the exact same thing. (Multiple people I know have also had this problem) Don't buy from HP because they don't know how to properly put a computer together.

Horrible Headache from being stuck with it

I bought this computer in October15th of 2015, in February of 2016 it broke and I have to send it back to HP, they returned it after almost a month (I am a college student that needs a computer constantly). As of October 20th, coincidently the same month that I bought the computer on the previous year, It broke agai (DURING THE MIDTERM WEEK WITH ALL MY NOTES AND STUDIES INSIDE) I tried calling HP many times, and since the "year of warranty" was expired ( even after have it broke once and staying almost a month with it, THEY WERE NOT FLEXIBLE AT ALL) they could not do anything with it, and I wanted to try their phone troubleshoot I would have to give my credit card first with the cost of $60 in case they are able to fix it. After a long and painful conversation I asked the person whom I talked in the phone to transfer me to their manager, which gave me the "troubleshooting" for free through the phone, which consisted in giving me instructions that were: try pressing the power bottom and holding for seconds (which is the normal way of turning the pc on) and the great troubleshooting idea, of course, did not work. Here I am stuck with it. NO, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO A FRIEND.

This is the worst thing I have ever purchased and I wish I would have saved a few more bucks and just bought a mac. My mouse pad will randomly stop working (all the time) then I have to restart. Then the touch screen will stop working, then I have to restart AGAIN. Now my keyboard has started to do the same. I have had this device for a year, never even took it out of my apartment. Sounds good in theory but run...
