Customers find value in the touch screen, ease of use, and long battery life of this 2-in-1 Chromebook. Its lightweight design and strong performance are also frequently praised, along with the ample RAM and competitive price. However, some users mention limited storage capacity and occasional fan noise as drawbacks. A few also reported minor compatibility issues and some instances of the device overheating.

Overall great Chromebook when on sale

I like it so far. Bought it on sale for $449. Was choosing between this, Acer 713 and Galaxy 2. Both, Acer and Samsung, are more expensive, Acer - $529 (when on sale) and Samsung - $699. Both are objectively better than this HP. Acer has Core i5, 128Gb SSD, 2K 3x2 screen, objectively all these additional features worth $80 more. But for my needs, all of them are nice to have. Core i5 is overkill for me in the Chromebook, 128Gb is nice but I don't store much on the local machine anyway, plus I have an external SSD. 2K and 3x2 ratio are the main reasons I was considering Acer, it is of higher quality, resolution, and brightness. But in the end, I decided that I'm ok with Full HD and 16x9 ratio since I'm using it for consuming media as well. And the speakers are better on the HP, very loud and no severe distortion. Samsung Galaxy 2 has a gorgeous display, lighter, and I really like the overall design. But it is $250 more expensive, more than 50%. I couldn't justify spending so much more on design and a better screen. plus, it doesn't have a fingerprint sensor, and I can't live without biometric scanners anymore, because typing in a password every time is annoying. So. What do I regret choosing this HP over the other 2? Not at all. Yes, it is not the lightest, not the best looking, not the best performing, but it has very good build quality (not that cheap Chromebook for $100-$300), a great keyboard, fingerprint sensor, and fast enough internals. Yes, I'd like the screen to be brighter (definitely not for outdoor use) but I can live with it. The battery life seems to be very good and allows me to work through the day without the need to charge it in between. I really like the keyboard, it is very comfortable to type on and has a backlit. The trackpad works as expected, not a Macbook level, but not bad either, and it is relatively big and more horizontal, which is good for Chrome OS gestures. As I said earlier, the speakers are very good, I don't go over 60% usually because it becomes too loud. The fingerprint sensor is very fast similar to my wife's Macbook Air. It took 1 day to get used to the chrome os gestures, but now I find them very convenient to use, and they boost my productivity. I use an iPhone, but for Android users, there are even more benefits since chrome os works great with android phones (like iPhones with Mac OS). I think, for $449 it is a great buy. For its full price ($629) I would definitely go for the Acer 713 or Samsung Galaxy 2 (open box excellent are even below $600), but $449 (or even $429) is the right price

I have been a fan of chrome books from the beginning and my last chrome book an Acer 15inch is now 4 years old and starting to slow down. I had purchased an HP before and was looking for an upgrade so I looked at the current HP models. I chose this model because of the impressive build quality, form factor and specs. With the 8 mg of ram and i3 processor it is very quick and can handle multiple open tabs with ease. The keyboard feel is excellent and the speakers are loud and clear. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Bought this on sale for $549. Pros: The physical features of this chromebook are great. It looks and feel like a premium device and I loved the backlit keyboard. The chromebook is very responsive and startup time is incredibly fast. It's light and never having used a touchscreen laptop before, browsing the web with this was a great experience. If you're committed and comfortable within the Google ecosystem, this will be very easy and fun to use. Cons: The screen seemed washed out. Colors were not nearly as vibrant when compared side by side with my phone. Within the first six hours of use, it crashed/froze twice and I had to hard reset (I don't think this was indicative of a device or software flaw; probably just an unlucky coincidence, but worth noting). For my use, this chromebook could never work. I like having my music on my phone and I usually buy music from Google, download it to my pc, then transfer it to my phone (there's probably an easier way to do this, but that's what I'm used to). I spent about an hour trying to download a song from Google play to the chromebook and transferring it to my phone and could never get it to work. The closest I got was downloading the file, but without the artist name or album info/art. Along these same lines, there's no traditional file directory for navigating the system and storing/transferring files. Transferring files was inexplicably limited. Conclusion: I could have overlooked the screen, and like I said, I didn't think it crashing twice was a red flag, but to pay $600 and not be able to do some of the most rudimentary actions that you could on a pc, I felt like it was a waste of money. I ended up returning it and as you're limited to Google's ecosystem, I'm not sure if mid or high end pc specs aren't wasted in a chromebook. I just don't see what you need the extra computing power if you're basically just surfing the web. I've never been big on mobile gaming, but even there I doubt the need for high end specs when low to mid end phones run the same apps just fine. Could just be my misunderstanding of how the system works, but at this point, doesn't seem worth the extra money to me. I really wanted to like this chromebook, and aesthetically I did. Using Chrome and a few apps was easy and fun. But it's not a pc, and I realized I was more comfortable and perhaps dependent on pc capabilities than I realized. I haven't given up on chromebooks and as always, HP did impress with this device, but they're just not for me. Not yet anyway.

This HP Chromebook 14 was a very good purchase. The display is very good, more than enough ram and the battery life is good. A lower priced alternative to many ultrabooks.

I've used about 5 Chromebooks over the years and whatever this HP 2-in-1 14" Chromebook line is, it's the best Chromebook I've ever used. I used to have the blue-ish model with the white top awhile back (gave it to a family member in need), which was my favorite Chromebook until I saw this on sale for $399 and jumped on it. The screen is bright and crisp, the keyboard is fantastic, and the touchpad works nicely. It's nice to have a fingerprint ready to login in from sleep as well. The i3 and 8GB RAM make it plenty fast for how you'd use a Chromebook. However, please please PLEASE do research about Chromebooks, the differences between them and PCs/Macs, and understand their limitations and benefits before buying one blindly. Don't buy the really cheap ones with terrible displays and old processors. Also you don't need to go the $1000 Chromebook route either. This on sale for $400-$500 is absolutely perfect for what a Chromebook is.

At $400 on Black Friday, this is potentially the best bang for buck on the market for a Chromebook in 2020. 8GB memory and the Core i3 were the two key things that separates this from other similar priced units. We got this for our children for virtual learning, and it's everything I hoped it would be... Fast simple and just works. This is why you buy a Chromebook. Don't get lured to other models by a 4k screen... That's totally unnecessary, and I challenge anyone to see the difference in real life usage.

So far, very satisfied with this Chromebook. Good screen size and weight. Stays cool when so I can rest it on my lap for without it being hot on my legs. First one I've had with a backlit keyboard and I really appreciate that feature. Only complaint, and it's the same I've had with all tablets I've owned, is the sensitivity of the space on either side of the mousepad. If I squeeze too hard when I pick it up it activates a mouse click or "Enter" activity which can cause me to lose tabs I've left open so I could get back to their content.

I needed a new Chromebook as a backup for my primary computer, and this fit the bill nicely: a good allocation of RAM, decent processor, and a size I'd be comfortable with. I've been using it for several weeks, and it's been great so far. Video is crisp, as is audio, and switching between (lots of) tabs is smooth. And the ability to use the fingerprint sensor to re-authenticate after sleeping is a nice plus.

I have been looking to purchase a newer laptop, so when a good friend bought one of these Chromebooks, I was able to test it out -- I really liked it, and decided that this was the type that I will purchase. Well, I am super happy with my Chromebook -- it's slim, compact, lightweight, and most of all, very efficient in taking care of my 'computer needs'. And because I was able to avail of the Best Buy sale price, it became truly affordable. Nowadays, it's like you can't function properly without a good laptop or good smartphone. This one has me all good to go!!!

I recently just purchased this laptop and I have to say I absolutely love it. I originally bought it because I am in college and I needed another laptop to do my work on since my previous laptop crashed. The most thing I love about this laptop is how fast it is and how it is Chrome based. If I had to complain about anything it would probably be how the speakers aren't very loud but it's not a big issue for me at all. The screen is super clear and the sound is crisp. If you are looking for a laptop to buy this is the one.

This was my first 8gb laptop ever and I'm in love with it. The touch screen works great, the laptop really does fold into a tablet, it is completely gorgeous, the backlit keyboard is great, and I love the graphics on this thing! I've only ever had Chromebooks and needed one that was fast because I'm a tech girl and use my laptop for everything! This laptop is the best choice for me :) I was so glad to find it 180$ off of the original price. I literally just got a 650$ laptop for 446$!

Super great for basic needs such as emailing and Word, Excel. I was looking for a laptop that would be replacing my aging laptop from college. I'm very please so far with this laptop. It's very responsive unlike other laptops I played around with in-store. The display screen is also very vibrant and bright. Other ones in-store looked dull, almost as if there was a film covering it. The ease of using this traditional laptop style and flipping it to tablet form is seamless and smooth. I'm impressed with it so far and believe I will continue to be so.

After using lesser models with 4gb of RAM and struggling to do anything more than opening a few tabs in the browser, I can only say having RAM is THE MOST IMPORTANT option to go with on a Chromebook. A good processor is desired, but doing anything video centric requires both. Investing a few extra dollars is worth every penny. Having the finger print reader should be available everywhere, security is so important these days. The touchscreen and the flip is an added plus!
