Not great, even for entry level
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought two of these recently for entry level employees to do basic tasks. They feel like a phone OS and are very slow. In the future I'd spend an additional $100 and get something better.

Actually Not Bad
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I picked up the HP Chromebook 14a-ne1013dx, I honestly wasn’t expecting much. With an Intel Celeron processor, 4GB of RAM, and just 64GB of eMMC storage, I assumed it would be sluggish, especially when multitasking. But after spending some time with it, I was shocked at how well it handled everyday tasks, even when pushing it a little harder than I thought I could. Look and Feel For a budget laptop, the HP Chromebook 14a looks better than I expected. It has a clean, minimalist design, and the 14-inch screen offers decent brightness and clarity for everyday tasks. The keyboard is comfortable to type on, and while the plastic build won’t fool anyone into thinking it’s premium, it’s sturdy and lightweight, making it a great option for on-the-go use. Snappy Performance on Modest Specs The first thing that caught me off guard was just how smooth and responsive Chrome OS feels on this hardware. I expected lag when opening multiple tabs or streaming, but it held up surprisingly well. Apps launch quickly, and switching between tasks is fairly seamless. Of course, it’s not a powerhouse, but for a budget-friendly Chromebook, it’s more than capable. Remote Desktop Use One of my key tests was using Remote Desktop services. I often need to access a Windows machine remotely, and I was curious if this little Chromebook could handle it. To my surprise, using Chrome Remote Desktop and Microsoft’s Remote Desktop app worked without issues. The connection was stable, and while a more powerful machine might have smoother transitions, it was definitely usable for light work. Chrome OS Speed & Security One of the biggest perks of this laptop is Chrome OS itself. The lightweight nature of the system keeps things fast and efficient, even on lower-end hardware. Plus, with automatic updates and built-in virus protection, security is a non-issue. It’s a great pick for anyone who wants a hassle-free, low-maintenance machine. Battery Life: All-Day Power Battery life is another highlight. HP claims up to 12 hours, and in real-world use, I was consistently getting 8-10 hours with moderate browsing, video streaming, and document editing. That’s more than enough for a full work or school day, making it a solid choice for portability. Conclusion: Way Better Than Expected Going in, I assumed this Chromebook would be slow and frustrating, but I walked away pleasantly surprised. It’s not meant for power users, but for students, casual users, and even remote desktop access, it delivers far more than I expected for the price. The snappy performance, long battery life, and simple, secure experience make it a great value—just don’t expect to edit videos or run heavy applications. Would I recommend it? Absolutely—if you know what you’re getting. If you need a solid, budget-friendly laptop for basic tasks, this one’s a sleeper hit.

Not happy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have no idea if it works. I never even opened it. Saw that it didn't have a port for printer and tried to return it but the return window is 15 days. 15 days! I can't think of another business that gives such a limited return time. Now I am stuck with a laptop I can't use.....

Fine for light work but can feel sluggish at times
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pro: -Lightweight -Google ecosystem -Can use Linux Con: -Feels laggy -Low Storage -Touchpad seems less responsive -Gets warm The laptop is light with an all textured plastic body. Even though it’s sturdy, it does feel somewhat cheap. Not sure how durable the plastic is, but mine already had a scratch out of the box. There’s two USB ports and one USB-C port, which is also used for charging. There’s also an HDMI out and a headphone jack. There’s no vents and so far I haven’t heard any fan noise kicking in, but the downside is that it gets warm rather quickly. Even when not really doing any task, it gets warm enough that if you have it in your lap, it can start to feel uncomfortable. The screen is fine. It’s not the brightness but enough to do work tasks and good enough for watching videos. The speakers are, again, good enough to get by but they do sound hollow. Using the touchpad was somewhat annoying. The outer edges don't seem to register touch so there are a lot of missed clicks. Using Chrome OS for the first time, it took a bit to get used to it when coming from Windows. Your choice of software is much more limited. If you mostly use apps within the Google Ecosystem, then this is a viable option. A nice thing is that a lot of the Google ecosystem is cloud based and doesn’ need to be installed, which doesn’t eat into the limited storage. There are more apps available on the Play Store, but some apps are only available as mobile versions so it doesn’t look great on a laptop. Apps like VLC player don't work that great compared to its desktop version. Since Chrome OS supports Linux, more choices are available if you’re willing to mess with Linux and the terminal command prompts. Performance varies with this particular model, which leads to the one of the negative. Given the specs, the laptop can feel laggy even doing simple tasks. While booting up or waking is snappy, opening chrome or loading YouTube feels like it takes a second or two longer than it should. It can’t really do heavier tasks other than browser based apps or streaming. Battery life is good. In the few days that I’ve had it, I only needed to charge it once with intermittent use. Watching videos and browning around did impact the battery life that much. For the intended use and price, I think it’s enough for school or office work. It’s light and the OS isn’t too demanding. Main complaints are that it does feel sluggish at times, it gets warm quickly, and the touchpad is not that responsive.

Too good to be true.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This chromebook is...fine, but not suitable for multitasking. And when I say multitasking, I was not able to sufficently run google documents or drive, while having youtube music going. It seemed to stutter and have a hard time with any type of media.
