They don't last when not used

I rarely use my printer any more and these cartridges dry out, the nozzles get clogged, and the first few sheets are very streaky after a long period of not being used. I haven't found any that don't have this problem, so it's not unique to this product, but I really think HP needs to find a way to prevent it.
