Furthermore when we were on vacation and our printer was off we kept getting emails from HP to turn it on so they can track how much we printed, I guess HP doesn't think people ever leave their printers behind or untouched or maybe people don't print all the time, either way it felt creepy to have them bug us to turn on the printer for them to track our printing. Because it took so long to set the service up and because it wasted too much of our time and this whole unpleasant experience we decided to cancel it.

Posted .Thank you for your review. The whole printer sign up and Instant Ink setup should take under 5 minutes, I apologize if you had any issues setting it up. We recommend that you use the HP Smart app to set up your printer as it makes the setup much quicker. Please note that it is very important to leave your printer turned on, even if it is not connected to the network. This allows the printer to perform maintenance on the ink cartridges and the printhead so that neither will dry out. This would cause the printer to print as if it is out of ink even if it is showing there is still ink in the cartridges. On some models the printhead can not be replaced so it is very important to always try to leave the printer on. It uses less power than a doorbell when left in standby mode. I apologize that the sales rep did not explain the way Instant Ink works well enough. Instant Ink needs only an occasional connection to the internet so that it can update the amount of pages that it has printed. Instant Ink does not track what you are printing, only the number of pages printed. The emails to turn on the printer should not be sent very often unless the printer has not been on for some time. They do this to make sure that you are aware that your printer is offline and unable to print, just in case you may have forgotten to connect your printer to the network. Otherwise when you would run out of ink you would not have the new cartridges sent to you to replace. Keep in mind that with HP Instant Ink you can cancel or change plans at any time. It is the most affordable way to print and I apologize that you had these issues.

I never activated it because I dont print enough to justify the expense. It sounds good in theory which is why I gave it 3 stars, no basis for real understanding.
