I put that in quotes because I guarantee the ink is fine, but HP loves to expire their ink cartridges. I don't print in color very often, so I was pretty mad that I didn't even get 6 months out of this expensive ink cartridge. I don't plan on using the HP brand in the future.

I am sorry about the confusion surrounding expiration. The cartridges do not expire. The date on them is a warranty ends date. Usually a cartridge will work fine well after the warranty on it has expired.
The warranty is intended for whoever buys the product from HP itself. It usually doesn't apply to items purchased from a third party. However, the date will help you determine if you are getting fresh stock or not.

I see you are not thrilled with the product. The underlying cause of your feelings is the cost. By turning off the printer, cost savings are possible to move the cartridges to a different position. I would employ draft mode as much as possible. The thinner paper uses less ink. Summer is coming up. Monitor the temperature of the room the printer sits within. This measure prevents dry cartridges.

I'm sorry that your ink seems to have been used up too quickly. I can well understand how frustrating that can be!
Here are a few facts about ink usage that might help:
- A high-density print (like a photo) will use the ink more quickly than a low-density print (a text-only document), especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the environment is dry.
- Using the draft and black only settings on your printer can help save ink, especially the colored ink.
- Shutting the printer down between uses can help. However, always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That will let the printer 'park' itself so that the cartridges are protected from excess drying.
- If you suspect that the low page yield was caused by a defective cartridge, you are always free to contact the seller.

And the ink cartridges that my new printer takes, hold a lot more ink and are a quarter of the price of these ink cartridges. Sorry, just being honest.
