HP ink for my printer

The only issue is that I don't print enough at one time to keep the jets "primed" and the printer wastes a lot of ink getting ready to print. Strangely enough when my photos start to fade when the ink runs low it is always the Black ink cartridge not the Photo cartridge that needs replacing????
