The ink didn't last a month and I use it once a week for 1 sheet of paper to print a short document. I ended up getting rid of this printer and ink due to the amount of ink it went through. It was cheaper to buy a new printer.

I am sorry that the cartridge was used up so quickly and that it wasn't working when you needed it.
It's hard to tell, but it might not be the cartridge itself, it is possible that the printhead might need cleaning. Your printer should have an automatic routine to do that. Check the user guide, if you don't know how to start the cleaning.
If that helps, the printer might have been turned off using a power strip or switch.The printer should always be turned off using the power button on the printer itself. That will let the printer 'park' itself so that the printhead is protected from excess drying. That can cause clogs to form in the tiny nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper.
If you are dissatisfied with a cartridge, you are always free to contact the seller. You could contact us for a genuine cartridge that is not replaced by the seller, but is still within the warranty ends date on the cartridge: hp.com/contactHP

I hardly print things, only basic stuff. The black ink prints light gray, I went back to best buy and bought a Cannon printer with better guaranty even for their ink for a 100.00. I can't believe people with less income than mine, can afford this.

I had to go online just to find a toll free number. After speaking to a representative that couldn't help me I was transferred to another department to only be told that someone would call me back to help me. At the time of my review I've been waiting 5 days for the return call which hasn't happened yet.

I opted for the curbside pick up. I went home and installed the cartridge in my printer and it wouldn't print. I tried to exchange it at the store but they wouldn't accept it since it was open. I am out $35.00.

You can return exchange it. According to the Best Buy website: "If you receive a product that is damaged in shipping, defective or that is not the product you ordered, please return it during your return and exchange time period to Best Buy and we'll arrange for a replacement. If you would rather return the item by mail during your return and exchange time period, please call us for special instructions at 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289)."
