    HP System stinks

HP printer is great when it works. However, when the ink cartridges still have 10-15% of ink left, the printer will not print an acceptable page. Sometimes it will stop printing all together. Costly ink that will not work now in their rotten printer.

      Hello,

I am sorry that you are having trouble using your ink. I can understand if you are disappointed!

There is a good possibility that the printing stops because your printhead needs to be cleaned. Your printer should have an automatic routine to do that. Check the user guide, if you don't know how to start the cleaning.

If that helps, the printer might have been turned off using a power strip or switch. The power button on the printer itself should always be used to turn it off. That will let it 'park' so that the printhead is protected from excess drying. The drying causes clogs to form in the tiny nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper.

If that doesn't help, and it appears that the cartridges are faulty, you can contact us for replacement of a genuine cartridge that is not empty and still within the warranty ends date on the cartridge: hp.com/contactHP

A NECESSARY PRODUCT FOR ANOTHER NECESSARY PRODUCT

I included a purchase of an HP 564-XL Black Ink Cartridge along with my order of a new Hewlett Packard Photo-Smart model 6520 Inkjet Printer. It was my rather insistent request to the salesman that an extended-life inkjet cartridge be the only type included in my order, not the standard. From experience, I've learned to buy those which yield extended amounts of ink, since most inkjet printers use lots of ink and require ink replacements on a fairly frequent basis. The higher yielding cartridges, generally, are more convenient and end up as somewhat less expensive than buying cartridges with a standard yield. Indeed, I've heard that the compatible model of printer is one of those which does consume ink quite rapidly. I suppose the 564-XL should contain a reasonably sufficient ink supply to last awhile, though I would've preferred if the higher yielding ink cartridge, which Hewlett Packard does make, had been available at Best Buy. The reason I chose black, not a different color or a combination of colors, is in recognition that my use of wireless printing is primarily of documents requiring black ink, and, therefore, my need for extra black ink would be the priority. Further, the fact that my printing needs are seldom of colorful text or of pictures is a principle reason for my choice of inkjet printer model 6520, as this model printer has superior quality resolution on black printing in comparison to multi-colored printing. Since the printer comes equipped with small cartridges of black and various colors, I've not as yet had an opportunity to find how long this extended yield cartridge will actually last, yet this series ink cartridge is compatible with this particular model printer and purchasing it seems to be sensible. In brief, while I've indicated reasons for purchasing this ink cartridge, it's a necessary product compatible with another necessary product.

    3 colors at budget price

I was not sure about purchasing a printer that had to have 4 print cartridges because of the cost. So far I've been very happy with the low usage of ink and the printer. Still using the trial cartridges that came with the printer, but purchased the extras to have on hand. Glad I did the price was great and I don't have to worry about running out of ink because I have extra on hand. I like the 3 colors being bundled together, just can't understand why they don't put black in with it. Maybe they will in the future. Coming from a print background it's great that they have made the 4 colors separate, makes for best quality of printing of everything, just like having a small 4 color printing press at home!

      Hi Annie,

I am sorry that you are not happy with the cartridges. That does sound frustrating.

Provided that the cartridge is not damaged or defective, the ink usage will determine how long it will last. High-density prints (such as photos) will require more ink, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the environment is dry.

That said, I have a few tips that might help lower your ink usage:
      - You can use the printer's draft mode and black-only settings, whenever possible, to save ink.
      - Shutting the printer down between uses can also help; however, always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That lets the printer ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying.
      - Instant Ink might be worth a try. Many people like our available plans. They're based on how many pages you print monthly, which can save you money. You can check out the details at: HPinstantink.com

If none of those tips work, and it seems that the low page yield was caused by a defective cartridge, it is always an option to contact the seller about that.

    Produces crisp black documents

We have gone through the initial 564 SetUp ink tanks supplied with the Photosmart 6520 printer and are satisfied with the print quality. The cartridges are easy to load and print until completely empty. Have had no ink related problems so far with the printer. The black ink produces crisp black text for documents, but does not produce deep rich blacks in photographs. Perhaps you need a more advanced HP printer such as the 7520 which has a separate Photo Black ink cartridge for photographs.
