I don't print a lot of stuff. Mostly Amazon returns and the occasional receipt. Twice now, I have purchased one of these ink cartridges, printed what I need, and then, a month later, I try to print a document, and it's dried out. I have tried all the online suggestions to fix, to no avail. As stated, I don't print a lot, but it's ridiculous to pay $20 for a cartridge that I can only get 1 or 2 uses out of! Never had this problem with other brands.

      Hi,

I am very sorry you're having this happen. That sounds frustrating, especially when you can't get it working again.

While it is difficult to know why a cartridge stops working, it sounds likely that the nozzles are clogged, If that is the case, they need clearing. There is an option on your printer's menu for cleaning the cartridge that works on that. If the clogs are pretty bad, it might take more than one cleaning.

If that helps the situation, the printer might have been turned off using a power strip or switch. The printer should always be turned off using the power button on the printer itself. As it powers off, the printer will 'park' in a way that protects the cartridges from excess drying. The drying can cause clogs in the tiny nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper.

If that does not help, it is probable that the cartridge is defective, and you can contact the seller about a replacement or refund.

      Hi there Melanie,

Oh no! Seeing no ink in the cartridge must have been a surprise. Did you check the level in the printer? Look for any leaks as well. It might be an entirely different issue if the cartridge shows ink but doesn't print. As you mentioned, most of our cartridges work great. Contact support at www.support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/. Doesn’t last long. But that could be because it’s HP. I have yet to find a printer that is exceptional. All of them are cheap junk that last about 3 years and quit. This ink is the same.

This is the recommended black ink required for my printer, however it doesn’t seem to last for long periods. It could be for several reasons that could be on my end why I’m not getting the best results.

      Hello,

I am sorry you have had this experience. I can understand your disappointment when the cartridges seem to run out too quickly.

Doing high-density prints (like images and graphs) will use more ink, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the surrounding air is dry.

Here are some things that might help lower your ink usage:
      - Consider using XL cartridges. Most people say they are a much better value
      - Set the printer to draft mode whenever possible
      - Shut the printer down between uses
      - Always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying
      - Subscribe to Instant Ink, then you only pay by the page and not for the cartridges themselves

You can make returns or exchanges either to the store or by mail if the poor performance seems to be due to a defect. Information about that can be found at:
