      Hello there,

I understand you received a cartridge that didn't work. I'm sorry for the hassle of returning a cartridge. There are multiple reasons that cartridges will not work. The first is that the printer has trouble registering the information from the cartridge. Ensure the cartridge is firmly secured in the cartridge holder. You may check for any error messages. Restarting the printer sometimes helps the printer recognize the cartridge.

cartridges did not fit old HP printer, figured it was time to replace. Bought a new printer, and new cartridges did not fit this either. Switched to Canon, and no problems so far.

I have an HP 7640 Envy, and it doesn't recognize the XL black ink. I checked online afterwards, and apparently I'm not the only one to have had this issue.

      Hello,

I am concerned that you had this problem. That cartridge should work in your printer, but if you can't get it to work, perhaps it is defective and you should exchange it.

A firmware upgrade might help. You can download the firmware (and perhaps the full-featured software - that often helps performance) from this site:
      support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-7640-e-all-in-one-printer-series/6617267

      Hope this helps!

      Hi there Rick,

I see you aren't finding the optimal value from our cartridges. We want our customers to be happy. Several items impact customer satisfaction. The first trick is to turn off the printer if you aren't using it. This protects the cartridge. Wiping off old ink periodically from the printhead keeps the cartridge in good condition. Be sure to keep the temperature and humidity of the room in check as well.

      Hi,

I regret that your cartridge didn't work. That had to be disappointing.

You can return it or exchange that cartridge either to the store or by mail. Information about that can be found at:

      Hi,

I'm sorry that you didn't get more pages from the cartridge the seller sent. The estimates of pages printed are based on standards set for the industry. How a cartridge will perform in your own printer will vary according to usage.

Ink usage determines how long a cartridge lasts, unless it was damaged or defective. High-density prints (such as images and graphs) will use more ink, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the air is dry.

Here are some things that might help lower your ink usage:
      - Black is used a lot in almost every printout. Make use of the printer's draft mode whenever possible, to help stretch out black (and colored) ink
      - Shut the printer down between uses; however, always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying.
      - Consider getting Instant Ink. The subscription plans let you pay by the page. Check out the details at the HP Instant Ink site.

If it appears that the poor performance is due to a defect, contact the seller to see about a refund or exchange.
