Couldn't get it to work in the printer. The color cartridge was fine, worked as it should. I called HP Support & he walked me thru processes to fix it. It wouldn't work, he told me I had to buy a new black ink cartridge. I did, & the Best Buy guy told me once the ink package is opened, I couldn't return it. So, I purchased a new XL black ink cartridge.

I am sorry that the cartridges did not last long for you. That has to have been frustrating.
The page yield estimates are based on the industry standard ISO testing, but the true page yield depends on many factors.
It is hard to say how long before a cartridge will need to be replaced. If it is not damaged or defective, the ink usage will determine how long it will last. High-density prints will use up a cartridge rapidly.
Alignment pages don't use up too much ink and aligning the new cartridges often greatly improves the print quality.
