COLOR INK WAS FAULTY

I had to remove the color ink cartridge & reinsert before being able to print. I haven't had time to take it back to the store. I will soon.

I want to help you save ink. You might want to monitor the environment of the room, especially temperature and humidity.
Skip printing invites, images, or fancy designs. All of them cause ink depletion. Use print preview mode. This mode saves on printing copies you didn't use. Remember more text means more ink deposited on the page.

cost too much not to work

Black ink finished after a few pages of printing

I'm sorry that the black cartridge you got didn't work for more than a few pages. I can understand why you seem to be upset about this purchase.
Contact the seller if a cartridge was low on ink to start out with, or if low page yield was caused by a defective cartridge. According to the Best Buy site's Return & Exchange Policy information:
"If you receive a product that is damaged in shipping, defective or that is not the product you ordered, please return it during your return and exchange time period to a Best Buy store and we'll arrange for a replacement. If you would rather return the item by mail during your return and exchange time period, please call us for special instructions at 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289). We will cover all reasonable and customary ground shipping fees."

Black cartridge was defective

It's a letdown to get less ink than expected. We missed out on your best hopes for the cartridge. I am sorry for that.
There are many reasons a user might get less ink out of a cartridge. A defective cartridge is only one of them.
Many customers don't keep track of how many pages they printed. They may underestimate the pages yield.
The ink might have run out faster if you printed pages filled with text, images, or other items. Slightly decreasing the print quality setting might save some ink.

Occasionally, a cartridge will run out quickly. If you are new to HP ink, then there are several strategies to extend the life of the cartridge. The first idea is to track your ink usage after each print. The grayscale only option saves on color ink. I also recommend limiting photos, invites, posters, and other ink-intensive items. You may also opt for an XL cartridge.

I am sorry that the cartridges didn't last long. I can understand you not being happy.
Ink usage usually determines how long a cartridge lasts (unless it was defective). High-density prints (such as images and graphs) will run the cartridge out faster.
If it appears that the cartridge was defective or damaged, you should be able to return it to the seller.
