Ink dries out!

It concerns me that the cartridge seemed to dry out. I hope to be able to help you out with this though.
Provided that the cartridge is not damaged or defective, the ink usage will determine how long it will last. High-density prints (such as photos and graphs) will require more ink, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the environment is dry.
That said, I have a few tips that might help lower your ink usage:
- You can use the printer's draft mode and black-only settings, whenever possible, to save ink.
- Shutting the printer down between uses can also help; however, always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That lets the printer ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying.

When it seems that the low page yield was caused by a defective cartridge, you are always free to contact the seller for a replacement.

Bad deal

I understand your hesitation about the product if you receive error messages that the cartridge is not from HP. BestBuy is a vendor that sells cartridges directly from HP. You can verify the cartridge is legitimate by visiting www.hp.com/anticounterfeit/. Some printers have difficulty reading the new cartridge. Powering the printer off and resetting the cartridge may resolve the issue.
The early depletion of ink is attributed to multiple factors. Print preview is your first line of defense. It works by eliminating scrap copies. Running printer maintenance, adjusting the print quality setting lower, and removing dried ink from the printhead help. Lastly, avoid printing photos, posters, or invitations. All use an immense amount of ink.

Dried up quickly

I'm sorry that this happened, but I think we might be able to fix it.
Sometimes the nozzles on the cartridge will get clogged so that the ink remaining cannot get out. You can often get them to open by using the cleaning routine on your printer. The routine is usually referred to as 'clean cartridges' or 'clean printheads'.

I can understand if you are disappointed when the cartridge seemed to run out too quickly. The advertised estimates of pages are based on a standard set of prints used by the industry.
How each individual cartridge will perform for you is determined by your own usage. High-density prints (such as images and graphs) will use more ink, especially if the paper is extra absorbent and the air is warm and dry.
Here are some things that might help lower your ink costs:
- Black is used a lot in almost every printout. Make use of the printer's draft mode whenever possible, to help stretch out black and colored ink
- Using the black-only setting will save on colored ink usage.
- Always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying.
- Shutting the printer down between uses will save electricity and a few drops of ink here and there that are used to keep the inkjets cleared and ready for your next print job.
- Instant Ink lets you pay by the page. Check out the details at: instantink.com
If it appears that poor performance is due to a defect or you got a cartridge that was already low on ink, please contact the seller.

If the ink isn't filled, return it to www.bestbuy.com/site/help-topics/return-exchange-policy/. Monitor it after each print if the ink is full at the start. You may notice some items waste more ink than others. Switching to black ink is another strategy to save ink.
