Posted .Hi,
You might benefit from trying Instant Ink. Many customers like the plans that are available. The subscription service is based on pages printed, not ink use, so it might be beneficial to have a look at the plans and see if it could help save you money.

Posted .Hi Darin,
I was unhappy to learn that you did not have a good experience. You should have gotten more printing done than that!
If you only print occasionally, it is a good idea to shut the printer down between uses. However, it is important to always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridge is protected from excessive drying which leads to clogging which can require cartridge cleaning to get it working again.

Posted .Hi,
It can be frustrating to not have a cartridge that lasts long. I can understand if you are disappointed.
Normally, ink usage determines how long a cartridge lasts. High-density prints (such as images and graphs) will use more ink, especially if the paper is very absorbent and the air is dry.
Here are some things that might help lower your ink costs:
- Black is used a lot in almost every printout. Make use of the printer's draft mode whenever possible, to help stretch out black and colored ink
- Using the black-only setting will save on colored ink usage.
- Always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying.
- Shutting the printer down between uses will save electricity and a few drops of ink here and there that are used to keep the inkjets cleared and ready for your next print job.
- Instant Ink lets you pay by the page. Check out the details at: instantink.com

Posted .Hello Bert,
I am concerned that you had this problem. It is always hard to know exactly why a cartridge stops working, but since it was working at first, I'm going to take a guess that the cartridge needs cleaning.
If it does, that is a pretty easy process. Your printer should have an automatic routine to do that. Check the user guide, if you don't know how to start the cleaning.
If that helps, the printer might have been turned off using a power strip or switch. The printer should always be turned off using the power button on the printer itself. That will let the printer 'park' itself so that the cartridges are protected from excess drying. The drying can cause clogs to form in the tiny nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper.
