    Color Cartridges Not Really Reliable

Becoming harder and harder to support HP (both printers and their ink cartridges). The last few cartridges dried up prematurely (average printing 1-2 pages/week). Gauge for detecting ink levels has been grossly inaccurate.

      Hi,

I noticed you are having a difficult time with the color cartridges. I am so sorry you aren't enjoying our products.

The early drying could be a clog or extra ink on the printhead. Take a wet cotton swab and dab the printhead, reaching the copper contacts.

To save ink, I recommend printing in black and white text most of the time.

As for the gauge on your printer, I encourage you to contact HP support. The link is www.support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp. They should resolve this issue.

I also wanted black ink but there was none in stock. I also wanted photo paper for my copier, the clerk to a bottom shelf and said , "it will be down there" and walked away. There was no photo paper in stock either.

Faulty cartridge. My printer kept shutting down with warning that cartridge incorrectly installed. I would reinstall and print from it but get same message next time When I replaced cartridge with new one everything worked fine

Today, I purchased 2 cartridges with the new printer. One is black, the other is supposed to be tri-colored but it only has one cartridge and it says Magenta. Where is the blue and yellow?

      Hi Peggy,

I am sorry that the cartridge you received was not the right one. That sounds disappointing.

The cartridge you need is an HP 63 tricolor cartridge, and it will say that on the cartridge. It will not say magenta.

I would advise you to return that cartridge and get the correct one. There should be cartridges in the box with the printer, so you should still be able to go ahead and use your new printer before you need that replacement cartridge.

    Ink dries out!!

Does anyone have a solution for this? I rarely use my printer, and then when I go to use it, the ink is “gone” and I have to buy new cartridges. All I can figure is the ink dries out.

      Hi,

It concerns me that the cartridge seemed to dry out. I hope to be able to help you out with this though.

Provided that the cartridge is not damaged or defective, the ink usage will determine how long it will last. High-density prints (such as photos and graphs) will require more ink, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the environment is dry.

That said, I have a few tips that might help lower your ink usage:
      - You can use the printer's draft mode and black-only settings, whenever possible, to save ink.
      - Shutting the printer down between uses can also help; however, always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That lets the printer ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying.
      - Instant Ink might be worth a try. Many customers like our available plans. They're based on how many pages you print monthly, which can save you money. You can check out the details at: HPinstantink.com

When it seems that the low page yield was caused by a defective cartridge, you are always free to contact the seller for a replacement.

If none of those tips work, and if a defective genuine HP cartridge is not replaced by the seller (and is still within the warranty end dates on the cartridge) you can reach out to us for support: hp.com/contactHP

      Hi,

It is frustrating that you received a defective cartridge. Did you receive any error messages? If I had more information, it would be easier to help you. There are a few measures you could try. First, restart the printer. This action might help your printer recognize the cartridge. You could try cleaning the printhead. If you prefer, you could reach out to www.support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/.

      Hi,

I regret that your shipment was incorrect. That had to be disappointing.

You can return it or exchange that cartridge either to the store or by mail. Information about that can be found at:
