Lasting ink is the goal for all of our users. It sounds like you had a different experience. I would like to apologize for that experience. Check the ink levels in the printer settings once they insert them. It is best to check immediately after buying a cartridge. A cartridge with low levels of ink upon arrival from an approved vendor, such as Best Buy, is incredibly rare. An exchange could be processed as necessary.
As for the early ink use, I would check for a clog or a dried cartridge. Use a soft wet cloth with warm water to clean the copper contacts of the printhead on the cartridge. If you only print occasionally, it is a good idea to shut the printer down between uses. However, it is important to always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridge is protected from excessive drying, which will clog the tiny inkjets and shorten the life of the cartridge.
If it appears that the poor performance was due to a fault in the cartridge, you can check about returning it. According to the Best Buy website: "If you receive a product that is damaged in shipping, defective or that is not the product you ordered, please return it during your return and exchange time period to Best Buy and we'll arrange for a replacement. If you would rather return the item by mail during your return and exchange time period, please call us for special instructions at 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289)."
