It can be frustrating to not have cartridges last long. Most people do think that the XL version is a better value, but it does seem that even the standard version should have printed more than that.
If it appears that poor performance is due to a defect or you were sent a cartridge already low on ink, please contact the seller.
According to the Best Buy website: "If you receive a product that is damaged in shipping, defective or that is not the product you ordered, please return it during your return and exchange time period to Best Buy and we'll arrange for a replacement. If you would rather return the item by mail during your return and exchange time period, please call us for special instructions at 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289)."

Best Buy refused to replace them because they were “opened”! Said I had to work it out with HP. How’s that for customs”service”!

This situation is a stumbling block but can be resolved. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. If you got a page yield of 30-60 copies, there is room for improvement. First, take a look inside the printer. Any leaks will drain the cartridge, so watch for those. Next, try wiping the printhead with a damp cloth. If the ink was purchased through Best Buy, a return is allowed if it meets the Best Buy policy. I am apologetic that you were denied a return. If you bought the cartridge in the US, it should be US ink. I suggest reading the information at www.bestbuy.com/site/help-topics/return-exchange-policy/. For future ordering, reference the product information from your old cartridge to order the new one.
