The program did not recognize the cartridge. Never happen before I call the factory No customer help there. I drove to Best Buy the item was out of stock. Customer service did not offer a replacement from another store. It's all about customer service.

I know ink will dry up when it is not being used, so maybe I have too much gap in between print jobs.

My apologies for this happening to you. I can understand if you are disappointed when the cartridge seems to run out too quickly.
Check the ink level on the cartridge. If it still has ink, it is likely that the cartridge is clogged and not letting the ink through the tiny inkjets. There is a cleaning routine available from the printer's menu that you can use to clear them out. The routine might need to be run more than once to clean out the clogs completely.
If you only print occasionally, it is a good idea to shut the printer down between uses. However, it is important to always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridge is protected from excessive drying which leads to clogging
If the poor performance appears to be due to a defective cartridge, please consider returning it to the seller.
