It will print a page and then tell me to replace my ink cartridge. It’s the correct one so I’m not sure what the issue is but when it’s opened you can’t return it.. waste of money

I will explain why your printer only allows instant ink. I'm very sorry that the disruption to your printing happened to you. Once you sign up for the program, the printer doesn't recognize other cartridge numbers. Therefore, unsubscribe from the program by visiting www.hp.com/us-en/shop/cv/instantink/ and logging into your account.

The black ink was fine but my colored ink has not run out yet so I am hoping the cartridge will be fine when I open it.

It was sure to be disappointing when the cartridges didn’t last long for you. It is a good idea to check the ink levels to ensure a "new" cartridge is actually full.
It is possible that the printhead on the cartridge is getting clogged and not allowing ink through to the paper. There is a cleaning routine available from the printer's menu used to clear the tiny inkjets in the printhead to get it printing again.
To prevent these problems:
- Turn the printer off when it is not being used
- Always use the power button on the printer itself to turn your printer off. That gives it time to position the cartridge so it is protected from excessive drying, which leads to clogs.
- Make use of the printer's draft mode whenever possible
- Print using the "black only" setting to preserve the colored ink
- Subscribe to Instant Ink, then you only pay by the page, not for the cartridges themselves

- If you are printing just text, use the black ink only setting.
- Avoid printing intensive tables, designs, and photos. - Use thinner paper.
- Monitor the dryness and humidity of the room, as it impacts the cartridge.
- Turn off the printer when idle to protect the cartridge from air exposure.
- Consider buying an XL cartridge for better value. I hope you save on money and value with HP ink.

Your sentiments about the product are understandable. We want to have satisfied customers. I see that was not the case here. If your ink finishes quickly, start by adjusting the print quality setting. Lower it a little. Then, turn off the printer after printing. This returns the printer to its original position, covering the cartridge. These tips help you gain value.

So off to my “to go place” I went. Returned home and got her back on track. Thank goodness the hp ink cartridges fit perfect!
