I understand you are having difficulties with both page yields and print quality. I would like to apologize for the experience. I think there are several ideas to gain more pages.
First, I would consider returning this item. If you only got four pages and the pages were faded, there might be a problem with the cartridge. I would shut down the printer after use. Consider printing in black ink instead of color ink.
