One of the advantages of Instant Ink is that you should never run out of a color. The cartridges should be sent in plenty of time to allow for shipping and be ready before a cartridge runs out. Perhaps you have had connection problems or something that is causing this delay in the process.

I installed it on my printer and my printer stated it was a used cartridge despite it being brand new. I page is printed were low on ink, I checked the print levels and the level was near empty. It was past the point of being able to return to BB so I reached out to HP about a replacement cartridge

They stated that since the cartridge had been opened they couldn’t accept the return. One of the worst policies I’ve heard of since that’s like playing the lottery. How would I know a cartridge is defective before taking the ink out of the box and trying it in my printer? I can’t. I’m not a prophet of guessing which ink is good to use. Very poor return policy.

When I took it back to Best Buy, the associate said there was nothing they could do for me because the box was opened.

- Shutting the printer down between uses will save some ink and electricity
- Always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying

The seller is responsible for the product you bought from them. When you receive a cartridge that is low to begin with, or doesn't work long because of a defect, check about returning it.

I am sorry that you had this problem. The advertised estimates of pages are based on a standard set of prints used by the industry.
Normally, ink usage determines how long a cartridge lasts. High-density prints (such as images and graphs) will use more ink, especially if the paper is very absorbent and the air is warm and dry.
Here are some tips that might help lower your ink usage:
- Black is used a lot in almost every printout. Use the printer's draft mode whenever possible, to help stretch out black and colored ink
- Always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying.
- Shutting the printer down between uses will save electricity and a few drops of ink here and there that are used to keep the inkjets cleared and ready for your next print job.
