Pricey...Empties Quickly

The ink is a little on the expensive side and I'm not sure if this is because of the printer or the ink cartridges but it seem like it empties really fast even when I print mostly word documents in black in white. I often get the message "ink is low" and I know I haven't been printing that many documents.
