After installing the cartridges in my printer, was able to print two color documents before the printer said the yellow cartridge was broken. Brand new, HP branded cartridge and it broke after two documents...returned to the Best Buy store and purchased a different brand of printer.

It is incredibly expensive (almost cheaper to buy a new printer) but if you are in a hurry and need to print immediately, this will do what you need it to.

The ink even when you are copying a black and white document uses some of the color cartridges. These cartridges go by quickly, which makes you wonder how “full” they are when new. Have tried their XL ones and they seem to only last a tad longer.

You are correct in stating that the color ink is required to print. Quality ink costs a lot to produce. Our ink is formulated to prevent smears and dry quickly on the paper.
Fortunately, there is a solution if you go to your settings. Select the grayscale or black ink only option for anything that can print without color. You will notice your color cartridges last a lot longer.
