Posted .Hi Beverly,
I am sorry that you are getting this error message on your printer. Sounds like you have an older printer (most that use these cartridges are at least 5 years old) and that is why the printhead is no longer made.
Since you have talked with someone at HP already, I'm unsure if there is much I can add to what they told you. However, there is usually some good advice available on the HP Forums. One of the experts there posted about a printer which is probably similar to yours. You might be able to use his advice:

Everything I needed in one box.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Running out of ink is a pain. Set my printer for black and white only but still runs out of colored ink? Must be true that HP printers use all ink no matter how you set up the the printer. Will look for a black and white printer soon.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When my HP 8600 Pro runs outta color ink it doesn't let me print in black 'n white even though I still have a full black ink cartridge. So I had to waste $80 on this garbage just to use my printer.

Posted .Hi,
I'm very sorry that you had this problem with your printer. I can understand that this might be frustrating since some types of printers can work without color cartridges.
With the type of printer you have, when you only want to print in black and white, it is advisable to change the settings to print black only. That will help to save the colored ink.
However, you will still (more rarely) have to get color cartridges because the tiny nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper will clog unless they are cleared regularly. When you are not using a color, the printer will have to use a tiny bit of ink during maintenance to clear the nozzles for that color. Shutting down the printer between uses (always using the power button to turn it off!) can result in savings too.

Will never purchase another hp printer again
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Can’t use refills or second party cartridges these things are way to high priced the printer won’t work unless it’s a brand new cartridge and even then it has issues keeps saying low ink when it’s not

Posted .Hello,
I am very sorry to hear you are having these problems with the cartridges. It is hard to know exactly what is going on, so maybe I can suggest some ways to save ink?
You could try the XL size cartridges, or try Instant Ink, if your printer can be enrolled in the program. Other ways to help:
- Using the draft and black only settings on your printer can help save ink
- Shutting the printer down between uses can help. However, always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That will let the printer 'park' itself so that the cartridges are protected from excess drying
- If you suspect there was something wrong with the cartridge, you are always free to contact the seller for replacement
If none of those tips work, and if the reason for the ink running out fast seems to be a genuine HP cartridge that is not replaced by the seller (and is still within the warranty end dates on the cartridge) you can reach out to us for support: hp.com/contactHP

Way Too Expensive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The cost of a pack of replacement color cartridges plus an XL black cartridge is almost as expensive as buying a whole new printer on sale that even comes with a full set of cartridges! Is that ridiculous or what!

Works well for me
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cartridges are good for doing what you need. I feel that they don't last long, the ink seems to evaporate needing frequent replacement.

over priced and limited life
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There ink cartridges do not last long. The worst part is that when the the black ink is gone, you must spend $60 and replace the colored inks if even one is empty.
