    I have had my printer for nearly 2 years now and always use HP952 cartridges. In my experience the XL and regular ink cartridges last nearly the same amount of time. As a bonus, if after the printer tells you the cartridge is empty you remove it and leave it upright for a while, you can usually put it back in later and get a dozen or so more print jobs out of it.
