    It is kind of garbage how stuck in the ecosystem you are with ink and how because printers are so "smart" they really kind of leave you with few options. I mean, this gets the job done but it feels like they run out so fast. Printers needed every ink colour even if you only need black and etc etc. I endure it because I need to but not stoked about it.

      Hello Jay,

      I am sorry that you are unhappy with the type of printer you have. There is another type that doesn't need colored ink.

      There are advantages and disadvantages to different types of printers. Many people prefer the ones like yours, with separate ink cartridges, because you only have to replace each single color as it runs out. To get more information about why you can't print when a cartridge is depleted, you can reference this online document: support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04331666

      When you only want to print in black and white, you can change the settings to print black only. Now, you will still (very rarely) have to get color cartridges because the tiny nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper will clog unless they are cleared regularly. When you are not using a color, the printer will have to use a tiny bit of ink during maintenance to clear the nozzles for that color.

      You can save some ink and electricity by turning your printer off between print jobs. Please note though it is very important to always use the power button on the printer itself to turn your printer off. That gives it time to position the printhead so it is protected from excessive drying, which can cost you more.

    can't rate it because after installing the recharge cycle ran the other cartridge out of ink. bought an Epson ecotank printer instead of any more cartridges. I will never go back to a cartridge printer too expensive to keep up. The eco printer ink is supposed to last up to two years.
