I am so sorry to know that you needed the CD in order to install the printer successfully. I can easily understand why this would be puzzling and eventually quite frustrating, so I’ll offer some resources and information I hope will help.
With that said, you can also connect and start using your printer through your WiFi connection. To do so, just follow the steps shown in the next HP Support document:

If the problem persists, I suggest that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. NOTHING !!! if just will not print without wifi...now I have to waste the time to take it back and try to find what I'm looking for !!! not a happy HP owner..

Running the HP Smart app doesn't usually fix it. Curious that the printer shows on-line on my iPhone but off line on my Windows 10 PC which is where I want to print from. On/off button is finicky and I usually have to push several times to turn off. The LCD display on the printer is so small that it is worthless. The paper output tray is poorly designed such that even when fully extended the printed pages usually end up on the floor.
