Purchased and had issues with screen within 2 weeks. Took Best buy insurance over A YEAR AND A HALF to finally get it right and just replace the computer! Would NOT RECCOMEND. Many have had the same issues with this model.

It’s been years and this laptop is still running like new. I bought it in 2017 and only had to update windows to windows 10. I play games on steam now and watch movies. I used to only use it for school but I have since graduated.

Liked this Laptop - But Had to Return It !!!

I liked everything about this laptop but the "helicopter-like" noise coming out of the upper left of the base (near the power button). After just a couple days of ownership, I brought this in to the Geek Squad - they immediately identified the sound as the fan & suggested an exchange. I opted to exchange mine for a DELL. I'm not sure I can add this - but I posted a video on YT of the actual sound for anyone who may be having a similar experience: https://youtu.be/xHd_LuvfGys

    Some times very slow

This machine has a lot going for it. The screen is big and bright and touch screen. The keyboard has a backlight that is easily turned on and off. It is even one of the few machines that still comes with a built in dvd drive. Under normal use, browsing and running only one app, the machine is fine. The big problem comes when you are doing updates. Like most machines, the version of windows on it was out dated and needed to be upgraded. The process of the available upgrades completing took 5 hours. While anything was downloading or updating, the machine was too slow to be useable. My desktop ran the same updates in less than an hour. I'm not sure what the bottleneck is here. It has a new I7 processor, 16gb memory so that shouldn't be the problem. It might be the hard drive is the problem. An SSD instead of the hard drive might have helped but who knows. The defrag I did on the hard drive after all the updates were done took over 3 hours. I am hoping the machine does better under normal use but getting it from out of the box state to useable state was a long, show, frustrating process.

    Complete Junk

Wanna know why this series is called the "Envy" series? It's because you will Envy everyone else that has a laptop that functions properly. I purchased one for my wife as a gift and sadly I knew I probably shouldn't have. The only plus is the i7 chip but it is bogged down with so much bloat it doesn't matter. Cheap components and massive issues with internet connectivity it is laughable that they call this a "business laptop". I have extensive experience with computer software and hardware and should have known better but it is a known brand so I bought it for her thinking that it can't be completely horrible and she will enjoy it more than a lesser known brand (even though the lesser known brand would be better.) I was wrong. It is terrible. The landing pad that you use (or attempt to use) to move the cursor, right click, left click, etc., is quite possibly the worst thing ever designed on a computer. It is slow and rarely will connect to the internet. Yes, I have spent a lot of time working on this computer to remedy some of these issues but I have yet to resolve them and am doubtful I will be able to without a tremendous about of time, effort and possible component changes. It is basically a $1,000 paperweight. It does nothing well or efficient. I have other laptops that are many years older with inferior spec sheets that smoke this thing. Sadly, at the same time I also purchased a new HP laptop for my daughter. she has many of the same issues on hers as well. What are the odds. Now there will be people that will point the finger at the operating software but it really isn't. I can explain why but this is already getting long. There are MANY better systems out there for less money. Sometimes you can get away with the old "name recognition" thing but with HP that just isn't the case. I stopped buying their printers many years ago so I guess I will no longer gamble on any of their products because IT IS a gamble. So if you want to "Envy" people with a working laptop go ahead and buy one of these paperweights. HP, don't bother with your scripted response I'm not interested, and MAC people don't even get me started.

    Worst computer ever bought

I've bought no less than 10 laptops from BB over the years. All HPs or Compaq. This computer is poor at best. I had to return the first one because the screen went black and only showed the mouse. Then the mouse started locking up. BB was good enough to issue a replacement, which does similar stuff. I may need to return the 2nd one, if so, I'm getting a different model. I can't afford to visit BB and wait in line and go through the hassle of getting it setup. BB Geek Squad, David & Scott, have been very good throughout. Also, the sound on this computer is poor, very tinny. The 2nd one cut out when I picked it up.

    Right Mouse Click is HORRIBLE

This laptop is pretty good, but I am a huge internet browser and always have used right-click to "open in new tab" when hovering over a link. This laptop is the worst with this functionality. Often when trying to right click, the computer instead clicks on the link I am hovering over. This causes me to lose my placement on my current internet page and again doesn't open the link I want to open in a new tab. This is SO frustrating as it is a functionality I use many times daily. I loathe the track pad on this laptop. I am tech savvy too so it's not a "user error." I have looked for new drivers but there aren't any to install. In speaking to a co-worker, I found this is a known HP issue and they have chosen not to fix it. Arghh!!! Another thing I do not like, but is a minimal issue, when resting this laptop on your legs it's really uncomfortable. The bottom edges of the laptop where the base meets the screen, the screen edges are sharp. Additionally about one inch from the screen edges there are decorative bars that dig into your skin. Final issue I have is the power adapter jack on the laptop, unless you are resting this laptop on a desk and not moving it, the power adapter does not fit tightly into the jack on the computer and always comes out. I feel like it's going to need replacing within a year or two of owning it.
