The HP brand has a bad rep and after this experience I see why. This printer is not compatible with IPhones. Stay away. The Hp app will do you no good. I had to purchase a third party app and that didn’t even work. After about two hours of frustration I packed this up to return. The next day I tried something I saw on YouTube—I checked to see if my VPN was enabled on my phone. It was. I disabled and then the third party app (not the HP app) was able to detect printer. This is not worth the headache. For the price why can’t this be a simple Bluetooth connection??

My existing HP printer is broken and saw this one on sale at bestbuy. Good value.

The self-healing Wi-Fi feature HP touts? It's not just marketing fluff - this thing reconnected itself after I deliberately reset my router to test it. What struck me most during testing was the print quality. Documents come out crisp with deep blacks that don't smudge, thanks to HP's pigment-based black ink. Color prints pop nicely too, though I noticed photos tend to be over-brightened - great for Instagram-worthy snapshots, less ideal if you're trying to match on-screen colors exactly. The compact design and solid wireless features make it apartment-friendly, and if you subscribe to Instant Ink, the running costs become much more manageable. Small businesses or anyone printing more than 50 pages a week should probably look for an upgraded model. Bottom line: The HP Envy 6165e is a well-designed home printer that does exactly what HP intended: gets you in the door with attractive hardware, then keeps you coming back for ink. If you're okay with that relationship and print light to moderately, it's actually a solid choice. The print quality impresses, the setup is painless, and it looks good doing it. Just go in with eyes open about those ongoing ink costs, and strongly consider that Instant Ink subscription if you want to avoid sticker shock at the cartridge counter.
