This one's print/scan quality is just good - but not as great as I expected based on some site reviews, or vs my old Cannon. And there are too many annoying sign-up offers, notifications, and the printer makes a high pitch "whining" noise even while not in use (mentioned in other reviews). It is very noisy when used. If you have a loud environment you may not notice. There should be a setting to turn off the "constant on" glow light. Again....the print and scan is ok/good.....but not good enough and the annoyances sink it for me.

I’m sorry to hear that your printer rendered scans and prints of substandard quality, and that it’s quite noisy when in operation. I can wholly understand why these factors as well as others you describe would make for an aggravating start to ownership. I want to help you remedy as many of these problems as possible, so I’ll direct you to some resources I hope will reach that goal.
First, I recommend that you follow the steps in a guide to improving scan quality that you’ll find on our support site. It covers what to do when the scanned file on a computer or the printed output has vertical lines, incorrect colors, color bands or poor resolution:

If it’s a print-quality rather than a scanner issue, I suggest following the steps listed in another guide that addresses faded or streaked prints, color or black ink not printing properly or at all, and blurred or fuzzy text:

I’ll also explain one factor that might be causing the noise you hear. While your printer is powered up, it makes sure that the nozzles are regularly cleared, which can be noisy, especially if the printer is on a hard surface. I suggest you try placing the printer on a padded surface to muffle the vibrations that occur.

Connection issue

Test page looked nice. Fast forward to setting it up in her dorm. We could not figure out how to connect through the school WiFi. Web Forums, chat, Software reinstall, phone call didn’t help, so I just mailed a USB cable thinking that would solve the problem. She was not able to connect herself. I’ll try after the semester is over. My advice, don’t set it up until you are at the final WiFi location. It seems to be locked up.

I usually buy all HP printers but this printer is a joke! There is an area by the paper tray that shows the status of the printer. Hope you understand Hieroglyphics because that's what you will need in order to figure out what is going on with this printer. You have to search the manual to figure out what the symbols mean. Then to make matters worse they have a light above the printer tray that changes color according to what's going on with the printer. Like " blue center light with white light pulsing at the side means this...." Are they joking? Who designed this? I have to take a course just to understand how to work this printer. DO NOT BUY THIS! Unless you want to spend hours trying to decipher how to use it and how to troubleshoot the simplest of functions.
