    What an awesome little printer

I was looking to update a previous HP printer, and shopped around between FRYS and WAL-MART. I found that this printer had all the options I was looking for, but was impressed with the little extras. The software provided really isnt necessary unless you dont have access to the internet to setup the printer to your machine. I am primarily using a home printer over our network, and was impressed with the "2-sided" print feature. Doesnt take much to impress me, but this made my day.

    Works, but some annoyances

    Posted .

Nice features, but some annoyances: (1) chirping noise, (2) randomly goes offline, must restart printer (not print job) to get back online, (3) touch screen too sensitive resulting in accidentally making 50 copies when I just wanted one, (4) menu to make draft quality copy cumbersome, seems to revert back every time. (5) Have to turn off and on when reloading paper or it doesn't recognize that you just loaded paper. Otherwise, works fine. Cartridges easier to change than old HP.

Will not work wireless with older modem

I connected the 7640 printer via a DSL cable to my computer. Worked as advertised. The wireless wizard could not connect wireless to my other devices. After a 4-hour session with a Tech in India my case was elevated to a higher level tech. In 7 days the higher tech called. Worked on my system for a few minutes and told me it would connect. It didn't. I called for help, After another 4 hours on line with another tech, he determined that the printer requires WPA-2 security and my older modem had WPA security. HP had no way to work with my older modem which I purchased through at telephone company.. I downgraded HP for three reasons: (1) They could have designed the security to be backward compatible. Within the past year I have no problems connecting smart phones, tablets, and laptops. (2) I couldn't find any HP documentation a warning that the wireless connection requires WPA-2 security. and(3) 8 hours on the phone and one week seemed excessive to identify a design constraint. The printer went back to the store.

This printer is awesome, I have had no issues setting up on both my desktop which is connected to the printer via usb, or my laptop that is connected via WiFi. I printed using normal printer paper, 24lbs resume paper, and 9mm photo paper with no issues. I have been very impressed and would buy anything the HP lables there ENVY series. I just got a laptop that is part of this series and it is awesome also. So if you are in the market for a new printer, look no further and buy this one, you will not be disappointed.

This is the second printer that I brought home. The first did not print from the photo tray. The second was difficult to install but seems to work o.k. I've printed a couple of pictures and they look fine. However, when printing it is extremely noisy. I have not used the fax or scan part yet.

Purchased hp printer 1/21/16. Was sold a connection cable ($24.99) Cable not needed as one came with the printer. Tried to return the unopened cable 2/13/16 for a credit without success. Store mgr. would not accept a return due to a 15 day limit on electronic equipment. NEVER AGAIN will I visit or support this company. Way to treat an 80 year old technically challenged FORMER customer.

    Worst Printer EVER!

This printer has multiple flaws and I would not recommend this to anyone to purchase. We used to have an HP Photosmart, which we loved, but it died after 3 years. We replaced it with this printer and let me tell you, we are returning it less than a week after we bought it. Setup is not easy for mobile devices, then when we finally got through that and printed a 2 page document it literally took 1-2 minutes for the first piece of paper to come out printed. It's locked up so many times that I keep having to turn it off and on (which also takes about 5 minutes for it to shut off. It does not have eFax capability - you have to plug an analog phone line in it to fax, unlike the Photosmart series). If you get a printer error, it doesn't show up on the touch screen until you cancel the job, then you see a printer error - again a bad design. All in all this is absolutely hands down the WORST printer ever. The only nice thing I can say is that we managed to print 1 picture and it came out beautifully but to have to struggle with a simple wireless device for so long is beyond ridiculous. We spent more time waiting for something to print, then shutting it down and restarting it multiple times than actually using it. Both my wife and I are in IT and managed networks and I think that HP made a major mistake with this one. It is so bad we aren't even going to stick with HP any more - we're going to look at either a Canon or Epson.
