Fantastic inkjet printer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Over the years, my wife and I have had various makes of printers. What really got us going with this printer were a few things. First, my wife sent me a blog article regarding HP Instant Ink. Secondly, Best Buy had this particular model on sale (it's the top of the ENVY line). Let's first consider HP Instant Ink. We already knew we were running out of ink from our last printer (it is a Canon PIXMA printer, not bad in its own right), so we knew that we were going to have to spend on the order of $15 - $35 per cartridge (the Canon took 5 separate cartridges, whereas this HP takes only two). Having to get most of those replaced equalled the cost of this printer on sale. Seriously. It also put into perspective how much we were spending on ink. Even if you only replace cartridges two or three times a year, that's a minimum $45 up to $80 per change out. So, how does HP Instant Ink fit into all of this? For as little as $2.99/month, you pay for a set number of pages (some of which can roll over to the next month), not for a set number of cartridges. We actually opted for the $4.99/month option (with a current deal to get three months free). And given this line of printers, it is actually an "Internet of Things" device, in that it has its own internal router, so it directly communicates with HP as to when ink levels are low, thereby ordering the cartridges on its own. Essentially, you only know when you're low on ink when the cartridges show up at your door! Secondly, as I mentioned, this particular unit was on sale at Best Buy. Fantastic deal on a $300 printer. As mentioned, it can create its own wifi network and includes NFC communications, plus its ePrint designation basically allows you to print to this printer from anywhere outside of your home's wifi presence. Regarding coloration, when the retail box marketing claims that it produces lab-quality prints, HP isn't kidding (though since printing is becoming such a commodity, this isn't a terribly high bar to cross). The results are really good. We'll be putting this feature to the test once we receive our pre-ordered iPhone 7 Pluses and see how good printed pics turn out. The printer is fantastic. The ability to auto-order ink at a substantially reduced priced compared to buying cartridges piecemeal is simply a game changer by itself (that's why we bought the printer). And if you can't quite budget for this model, consider another ENVY model, or certainly any other model that supports HP Instant Ink.

Just one small problem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything about the printer is ok, except for the ink cartridge access lid. You're supposed to be able to lift it with two fingers placed under both, or just one of the lift tabs, but we could not get it open. Finally we realized that if you lift it slightly, while giving a little push/twist to the right, that it opens relatively easy. Not sure what the purpose of the latch is though. Printed a couple of photo's, which looked real good, and my wife is happy to be able to print from her laptop. The latch problem kept it from being a 5.

Replaced EPSON XP-810
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a 3-year old ESPN XP-810 that recently broke, so I was left to search for a new printer. First, let me give you some background: My XP-810 was a great printer. The 4x6 photo print quality was outstanding. Overall, I had no problems with the printer for 3 years until recently. The photo paper cassette got jammed and while pulling it out, I broke off a plastic wheel internal to the printer. In my opinion, the cassette design is the WORST design of any of the major printer brands and quite frankly caused me to search for another brand. In 3 years I was amazed at the price drop. My new HP cost 129.99 whereas 3 years ago the ESPON cost 229.99.... I opted for the HP for several reasons: 1- Ink simplicity. I don't know why, but I like the 2 cartridge setup. The ESPON I had used 5 cartridges.... Versatility of this is debatable I guess. 2- Cassette design. I loved how well made the cassettes were for paper. SO MUCH BETTER than the EPSON design. 3- Looks. IMO, the HP's are the best looking printers out there. They are impossible to hide, so why not get one that aesthetically looks nice? 4- Price. Again, 129.99 seemed like a great price for the AIO 7640. 5- Software. Wow, pleasant surprise. The App is incredibly easy to use and setup was a breeze! So far, I'm very happy with the printer. I will say 4x6 photo print quality is a SLIGHT downgrade from the EPSON, but honestly all of other pros of the HP made it worth the small sacrifice. And honestly, this small thing is the only reason why I knocked off a star. Time will tell how this HP holds up, but so far so good and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to a friend. Lastly, if the multi-page copy function (top load) isn't your thing, step down to the 5660 which is on sale for 89.99....

ok for minimal printing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy setup with iMac and vista pc. On the printer screen, "paper tray empty" always appears. I even plugged the printer directly into outlet vs. surge protector per hp forum suggestion. However, the electrical cord is very short which means moving furniture around. I wanted to print xmas letters. I ended up wasting lots of ink and paper as it kept on loading 2 pieces halfway through at a time. I resorted to emptying the paper tray and loading in one sheet at a time. Real pain! Took way too much time and effort! Surely not good for printer to be opening and closing paper tray so many times. I read lots of reviews on printers--Epson and HP. All had their issues. Plus this printer was on the Apple list. I wanted something that was closest to my HP J6480 which I loved. It had its quirks, but it was so easy to use. Unfortunately, the J6480 died. Now everything on this printer takes 2-3 more steps to do anything. And, unfortunately, all printers are touch screens! I am hoping this printer will grow on me. Also, I thought maybe I would just make copies of letter instead of printing. Well the Christmas heading was in red foil. So the copier printed the heading in black! So if future printing is anything like the last 3 hours, I am doomed!

HP Product Warranty Problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was satisfied with this printer but after 6 months it needed repair under the HP Warranty. I called HP and talked to a person in another country (there is no way to find a phone number for a person to speak to in this country). I told them the problem and was asked to test some of the functions of the printer and was told that printer will have to be shipped to their repair facility and they would send me a replacement printer. This printer was being used at my condo in Texas but my permanent residence is in California. I was in Texas at the time and told the HP representative to be sure to send the replacement to Texas which they agreed to do since the packing and box with the replacement would be used to ship the printer that needed repair to their repair facility. After a couple of weeks I did not receive the replacement printer. To check if it had been sent to my residence I called a neighbor who picks up our packages when we are away. Guess what. They shipped the replacement printer to my residence. I called again after it took several times to get through to them. I explained what I found out about the replacement printer and requested that they send me a prepaid shipping label in order to ship the printer I had and also a label to my residence so I could ship the replacement printer to Texas after I return home. This was agreed to by the HP representative. In Texas I received the label and shipped the printer needing repair to HP. When I returned home there was no shipping label to send the replacement to my condo Texas. I called HP several times and was told at first that a label would be sent but I did not receive any. The last time I called, they refused to send me a prepaid label because they said the "replacement printer was now in my possession". I told them that they "screw up" by sending the replacement printer to my residence instead of my condo as was agreed. They still refused. And by the way, the replacement they sent me was a "refurbished" printer and not a new replacement.. After I had to make several phone calls and put on hold for many minutes in order to resolve at simple situation and what happened, I found out after the agreements made with HP representatives for taking care of there shipping "screw up" to be told that they would not pay for the shipping of the printer from my residence to condo as it should have been in the first place. I appears that HP's Warranty means nothing since I received a "refurbished" printer in place of the one I had purchased "new" from BestBuy in Texas and even though they didn't ship the replacement to my condo as initially agreed that they would since is was their fault that it was shipped to my residence and not to the place it was purchased and being used. I am fed up with HP, their representatives and their so called Warranty and I will never purchase one of their products again.

Versatile printer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this printer because it had USB, WiFi and NFC capabilities, so far it has not disappointed me, printing from Windows 7/10, Samsung Android and Apple phones has been a breeze, no errors and fast response even when waking up from standby. Printing quality has been great in regular and photo paper.

I have had nothing but problems with this printer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installing this printer was a nightmare. It won't recognize the usb printer cord. It's set up wireless now but that took a youtube video showing how to set the settings on the printer itself because it sure wouldn't connect thru the HP software. I bought this printer to print photos onsite. I tested it at home first using a computer then as a stand alone printer. It printed until I did that. Now it keeps saying that there isn't any paper in it. I tested using as a stand alone again and it found the paper quite easily then. I do most of my printing through photoshop and it is a nightmare to mess with the print settings to print from there. I just tried printing a photo from my new computer, and now it can't find the paper. Yeah, I'm extremely unhappy with this printer. The only thing it will print is Word for Windows documents. I'm not sure I can return it now that 30 days has passed.

Love it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great quality printing, easy wireless set up, and you can take out the color cartridge if you run out and just print it in black. My old printer Brother, didn't allow you to do it. It came with four cartridge. This one only uses two, and for both color and Black the ink cartridge is $36.99.

Worst Printer I Ever Owned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a HP printer ENVY 7640 a little while ago and it is terrible. I have it hooked up to my iMAC and Windows 10 laptop. I always have trouble printing and scanning on both. I normally have to reset the printer or reinstall the drivers almost every other time. I have owned many HP printers, my last on being a c310a, which I never had a problem with until it wore out. I know printers wear out eventually. I understand this. I have now reached the point that I will never ever buy another HP printer again. I will also encourage my friends and family not to buy HP products. I am really sad to do this but I can't put up with this anymore. I will have to start buying non-HP brands from now on. I also sent this information to HP with no saiisfactory results..

Excellent printer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This printer replaced my HP 5514. Much faster. I especially like the pop out printout catcher. Document feeder is very helpful when scanning multiple pages to pdf file. Previously I had to do each page singly hen use a web app to merge pages.

Many nice features for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not a youngster but found it easy to get setup and start running. Minor trouble in getting to print because I didn't have paper type set even though I had paper in it. I replaced my older HP310 after many years of service.
