Step up from older HP Printer

Has all the bells and whistles I need, Print quality is great and I'm thankful it only requires two cartridges, rather than 5 needed by the earlier printer. Still a bit noisy. All in all, serves my print purposes well.

The printer was easy to set up and begin to use! It even came with a few photo sheets to try out and we have one on our frig! The printer is fast and reliable. Love the bluetooth too for easy use!

Was lucky enough to get this printer for about half price. Would have paid full price very versatile and user friendly. For occasional print and scan jobs you can't go wrong.

I bought this printer a year ago and I see it has since gone down in price 30%. (I could almost but a new one for the same price as the replacement ink cartridges) Besides eating ink, losing wireless connection a lot. You will also have to download scan doctor from time to time to re-install the drivers (windows 10) every time it burps or loses connection. If you want reliability for printing or scanning this is not the printer for you.

Much faster than my old printer &and having it "ding" when a print job is finished is a nice touch.

Use the printer as a second office printer, does a great job, mainly light printing jobs, such as printing an invoice or writing a check.

Wouldn't buy if you own a Mac and need to scan

I have spent two hours on my own and one hour online chatting with hp support and still can't get my computer to scan to the printer. It "sees" the printer in the options, but for some reason can't connect to it. When hp rep had me reboot (after trying several different things), I lost the connection to the chat with him and got a new service rep who wanted to start all over from the beginning. Ugh! They are escalating to a case manager who is supposed to call me back but I have my doubts. And for anyone who is reading this and thinking, oh she's probably not technical at all and doesn't know how to troubleshoot (because I'll admit, I often think that when people complain about difficulty of setup), think again. I have exhausted many possible approaches and nothing has worked, including several things the hp rep tried when he took over my computer. The one time I did get it to scan it picked up every microscopic bit of dust on the scanning bed. Obviously can resolve by wiping clean every time but who wants to do that? Also, scanning software is very limited in capabilities compared to others I've used. Also printer is quite noisy - sounds like coffee percolating when it starts to print, and sounds really loud and mechanical when turning off--sounds like something I would have owned when I had dial-up. I would have expected better. Print quality is very good for regular printing but a little grainy and poor color quality for photos. This printer isn't really highly rated for photos anyway, so I didn't expect them to be great. Wanted to get rid of my Epson because of ink costs, but will return this bad apple if hp can't get scan setup resolved. I am hoping Best Buy doesn't charge me a restocking fee.

Photo quality is ok - Instant ink idea is good

Purchased as a replacement for an HP Photosmart series printer. Mostly for printing out documents and kids school work but also for printing photos for display throughout the home. Was not sure what to think when I saw the ink cartridge scheme - 1 trip-color + 1 black. No photo black cartridge like my previous Photosmart printer which was leaking ink apparently due to a fairly common issue. When I got the printer home, setup was easy and enrollment in instant ink program as well (By the way, you can get 3 months of the service free with INSTANT3 promo code at signup). The print speed is slower than what was being replaced. Wireless setup, access, and flexibility was a plus. However, where the printer fell short of my expectations was in photo quality. I would say that this printer does not match the quality of my previous printer by a fairly wide margin likely due to the lack of a photo black cartridge. The photo colors are overall dull. Not vibrant. Like a viewing a photograph through a window screen or while wearing gray sunglasses. Using photo editing software to raise brightness and saturation led to little improvement. Since I would like to print out a fair number of pics, I plan on taking this back and probably get a Canon MX922 instead. One last thing to consider, is the trip-color ink cartridge. If you run out of of one color, you need to replace the entire cartridge - i like the individual cartridges. In the end, if you are ok with occasional photo printing and are not expecting vibrant pics that jump out at you, then this printer will probably be a good fit.

Printer worked very well for the first several months. I've only had it for about a year and now the ink prints with streaks and very lightly even though I've cleaned the printer heads countless times and changed the ink cartridges. Not impressed. A printer should last longer than a year. I've had good success with previous HP printers, but will now be looking at other brands.

    A perfect fit

I had minimum vertical space to work with. The ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) allows originals to be fed in sideways without having to lift the cover. That made this model a perfect fit. Performance of my other HP printers has been flawless so my mind was already made up as to brand when I started shopping. The clincher was the ink plan. Painless, low cost and always assures you have a backup cartridge in hand.

    Stopped working the next day!

I bought the HP Envy 7640 online. It came quickly and was easy to set up. I even printed two pages the first night I had it. Turned it off for the night, went to work the next morning and when I came home I wanted to print something. It refuses to come on. I have checked the connections, changed plug ins, and even called Geek Squad. Nothing works and they told me I would have to return it. Since the nearest Best Buy is an hour and a half away I am having to drive 3 hours round trip to get a new printer. Yes, I could ship it but the reason I bought a new printer is because I need one immediately.

Easy to set up. Only plus. Slow printing, doesn't wake up on its own, and prints terrible pictures. They lack details and have a glazed over color, lacking vibrancy.
