Good Value For The Price, Except...

I bought this to perform processor and graphics intense video editing in addition to normal internet, word processing, and spreadsheet processing. The desktop has a lot of processing power (I7-6700HQ processor), very good 6th generation integrated graphics, plenty of storage (2TB) with fast I/O (7200 rpm), and 8 usb ports - 4 3.0 and 4 2.0 among other things -- essentially everything I need at a very good price in comparison to others. Set up was pretty simple (I've done this before). There wasn't a large amount of bloatware and what there was I was able to uninstall or delete. To avoid the never wake up problem, I simply set the power plan to never turn off or sleep, so that is not an issue with me. Now for the reason why I rated this down to a 3. The wireless keyboard was dead on arrival and the wireless mouse had a lot of lag when moving across the screen. For a high performance laptop like this, to have that happen implies a lack of quality control and testing in at least those two critical parts. I just happen to have a usb back lit keyboard and an extra Logitech wireless mouse -- which works great by the way -- so I was able to do the set up and decided not to box up the desktop and return it for another (also concerned I would wind up with the same problem). Other than that everything, so far, is fine. Unfortunately BB does not allow editing of reviews, so if I find anything else wrong in the future then I will use the comment section in this review to report it. I take some comfort in the fact that my elite plus membership allows for a 45 day return period. I marked this as yes I would recommend to a friend, but I would definitely detail the caveats.

Could not keep this machine running for web browsing with Chrome. Crash after crash. Wound up returning it and buying a Dell XPS for about the same money.Typing the review on the Dell now... Have not had issues like this before with HP stuff, but gave up after two weeks of lost work...

I bought this unit to replace an Intel i5. The new unit was very easy to setup and ran with Windows 10 seamlessly. My wife uses the PC for video editing and lots of media files. So far the PC has been taking it all in easily. It gives great value for the price point of being less $1000.

    3rd Wireless Monitor

    Posted .

I bought the HP - ENVY Desktop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 2TB Hard Drive. It advertised you could connect up to 3 monitors, but only came with 2 HDMI ports. After further research (and my husband's help!), the 3rd monitor had to be connected via Miracast. I found on Amazon a "Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter v2" and it works like a champ! Plug into TV, click "connect a wireless display" on PC.. it found it and BOOM! Even casts audio really well. I also upgraded the PC to 1 TB SSD and use the 2 TB it came with as extra/backup storage. For an extra $400 here is my mods: -Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD -Sabrent 2.5" SSD & SATA Hard Drive to Desktop 3.5" SATA Bay Converter Mounting Kit -Valinks(TM) HDMI Male To Dual HDMI Female 1 to 2 Way Splitter Adapter Cable I created backup disks of the OS, unplugged PC.. plugged in the new SSD. Turned PC back on and then re-booted to CD to install on SSD. Been running this setup for ~ 6 months without any issues - GREAT PC!

Hard Drive bad, right out of the box. Also, optical drive wasn't installed during software check. Turns out it wasn't plugged in during assembly.

Great at first, but failed after 2 weeks

When I got this computer it was extremely fast. No problems appeared until 1 day before my return policy expired. It all started when the keyboard and mouse started to lag out, it would consistently work, and then suddenly stop working. This also happened with my external hard drive, I was making a backup of a game I had, and the hard drive disconnected. Nothing is wrong with my devices because they work perfectly on other machines. I'm guessing something was defective with the USB ports. But the problems didn't stop there. Every time I was browsing files in the file explorer, it would freeze, and the explorer quits, so I try to open task manager, it shows that it is still open, but it would not respond at all. The problems continue when it totally freezes, the computer automatically restarts, and then when it turns back on, there is absolutely nothing showing up on my monitor. I tried the monitor on a different computer and it worked, but this HP, something was really wrong with it. It came to my mind that desktops were less problem free than laptops were, but I was apparently wrong, no laptop I have ever owned has just basically died. I will be exchanging this tomorrow for a new laptop. Very disappointed in HP for this. Also for anyone wondering about the Intel Skylake bug, I do not believe this model is affected by it, I do have another HP laptop with a 6th gen Intel Core i5 and that does have the bug, the model of that i5 is the 6200U. Regards to everyone.

    Frustrating

I bought this unit for cad design. Now I'm not a big computer guy, but for that purpose it seems to work fine. The main issue is trying to start the darn thing. Sometimes it just doesn't want to do it. I have to try several times before it comes on. Also at times it wont close the windows I have open. It forces me to ctrl alt delete. Now I realize this unit is not super high end but for the money I figure it should do the simple things like turn on and close things. It drives me nuts!!! Very frustrating!!!

At $899.00 this computer is a good buy, but I bought it on sale at $799.00. The computer is outstanding. It is fast and has loads of memory. Windows 10 is still developing hopefully with updates like the email needs some work to be done to it.

    Solid machine

So far this is one fast machine. Easy setup with minimal crapware installed! I do some light gaming but the main use is music. I have installed Ableton Live, Reason 5.0 and Sony Acid pro. These apps run really fast and smooth. I can render multiple 5 minute tracks in seconds. Yes, you might need to upgrade the power supply if you are a hard core gamer and wish to add a video card. Although you might not need to if you replace the traditional hard drive with an SSD. All in all this is a solid workhorse.

    Poor Quality Hits HP

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this Envy PC on December 28th, 2015. As of today, February 17th, it is still not functional and actually at an HP repair facility. HP has tried to repair it since January 14th. It freezes. Potential customers will notice when searching HP PCs that "freezing" is such an epidemic problem that it ranks in HPs FAQs!! The unit still has not been repaired due to lack of parts for repair. THIS IS A NEW PC and HP refuses to refund or replace and cannot repair it!! Folks, you may win the lottery and get a good unit, if not strap in for a poor quality, poor customer service and totally disinterested and disrespectful HP experience. I simply cannot believe this is HP!!

Graphics card won't support running 2 monitors; the second monitor will blip and bleep and have random blackouts; the HDMI ports are unstable- bump the monitor in any kind of way and it goes black for 20 seconds, after then after 4 months wouldn't run Windows (would boot up); any time it was turned off there was difficulty booting up (would take 2-3 attempts)- my office has 4 brands of computers and 10 total in all- this product is the only lemon

At first I loved this computer. I read the reviews and decided to buy it. First on christmas came with a problem. The screen froze few times and I wasn't able to do any thing but push the power bottom to shut it off. I returned and ordered the same again. The same happened. I bought a new monitor and downloaded google chrome, and it seemed to work... for few days. Again it froze when I was working with microsoft word. I returned it again and decided to buy other brand, dell or toshiba. I would never recommend it. It would be a great computer if wasn't this problem. Also, keyboard that comes with this computer doesn't work properly, neither the mouse.
