    Streaked Print Jobs Almost Immediately

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This printer works great for about 15 pages before the print jobs begin streaking. The streaking will continue to worsen for another 20-30 pages of printing or so. We then run through diagnostic prints, the alignment prints, and the smearing/cartridge cleaning prints. The diagnostic prints always say that we are using genuine HP ink and that the levels are good, so there shouldn't be a problem. Yet, the problem persists. None of the diagnostic or print quality tools solves the problem. So then we get a new set of cartridges and hope for the best. At this point, we are on our third set of cartridges which comes out to an average of 75 pages per set (the HP website advertises between ~165 and 200 pages per cartridge). That isn't even 75 pages of actual printing, about a quarter of those pages are attempts to clean the cartridges or the print heads. The other two quarters are streaked. What that means is that each page costs about $0.60 per page. If you exclude the number of diagnostic pages, you're spending $1.27 in ink per page. And if you exclude the streaked pages altogether (which we often have to when you're printing for official purposes where legibility is important) then you're spending $2.93 per page on ink and the rest goes to recycling. This is painfully wasteful. It isn't common that we have something important to print, but when we do we would really like a printer that can do the job. I also don't want to have to sign up for a regular ink shipment after a handful of print jobs. If I knew how much of a pain this printer would become I would never have considered HP.

      Hi, Ethan.

I’m sorry to learn that your printer has produced prints of poor quality. Your exasperation is no surprise here, considering that you’ve done troubleshooting, used diagnostic tools and bought new ink cartridges only to have the problem of streaky prints remain. I want to help you out of this dilemma, so I’ll provide a resource and some information aimed at making that happen.

I recommend that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess what’s happening and determine the best course of action. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding.) To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:

      - Model number
      - Serial number
      - Your location
      - Case number (from any previous contact with HP support)

I'll also mention that HP printers have a one-year warranty from their purchase date that covers hardware as well as ink supplies, so if it comes to that, you might consider making use of it. You can verify the warranty using the following link:

Worst Machine I Have Ever Experienced

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This printer will not print. It's anyone's guess if it will print or not when you click 'print' on a document. It says it's offline and then will print anyways. Other times, it says it is connected properly yet it won't print anything. The printer was replaced three times and continues to behave erratically. Upon purchase, I also signed up for their HP Instant Ink subscription which will automatically send ink cartridges based on the volume of pages you print. I have been paying a monthly fee for an entire year, but because the printer is so poor, I haven't even been able to utilize the ink service. I cancelled the subscription because I was only print a few pages each month because of the poor printer product. After cancelling, I tried printing a document and was alerted I can no longer use the ink cartridges in my printer because I cancelled the subscription. So an entire year of monthly fees and I can't even finish using the ink that is in my printer. I tried calling support 3 times to speak to someone about all the issues with the printer and the ink. Each time I sat on hold for 40 minutes. I ended up having to hang up to go to meetings or get my kids. Totally unacceptable customer service. I wish I could go back in time and never purchase this. I will say that I will never purchase another HP product.

Printer Doesn't Handle Color Projects For Long

I am so disappointed with this HP printer, it worked great at the beginning, with bright colors, etc. Then things changed, great for long-term blk & white jobs not color or creative projects.

Poor photo print quality and annoying

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Not as good as my old Photosmart 6520. B/W & color prints on regular paper are okay but photo print quality is subpar. Color is off. Had to clean the printheads with the first photo prints I tried when the printer was less than a month old just to get it to print full color. What's annoying is that it prints a sheet with an error message of a power failure every time I turn the printer on, so I have to wait and cancel the print. Even more annoying is the constant popups saying I need to add paper, when I don't, and to buy ink from HP when I don't want to. I would rather buy a different brand printer than to be forced to pay for a service that I don't want. At the very least, be professional and accept my no as a no and leave it at that.

    Disappoint8ng, unreliable

Right after the warranty ran out, my printer died. I restarted the printer and it l9cked up in reboot. They have a "unplug and restart" procedure that didnt work and when i called HP, they wanted to charge me to tell me how to perform the factory reset. It was an unreliable printer in that half the time it had to be restarted so that you could print. I had another HP that was equally unreliable, but both printed well when they worked. My Epson replacement will be here in a couple of days. For now, no more HP....very disappointing

ALWAYS GOES OFFLINE - DO NOT BUY

I have had to call or chat with HP at least 25 times in the past year that I've had this horrible printer. It constantly goes offline (either temporarily where I can at least unplug and replug and then it works fine), or permanently where my only option is to call or chat with their tech support and have them take remote control of my computer to fix the problem. About two months ago (10 months after I had been complaining to them constantly) one of their tech support reps told me I should consider getting a new router/modem and she suggested Arris because the one I currently had was apparently known to cause printer offline issues. So I got an Arris, and the situation got slightly better for almost 2 weeks and then it went offline again today. Unplugging and replugging didn't work. It's permanently offline and I can't print. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. Every single time it has happened my internet connection is working fine so it's obviously an issue with the printer that is never going to be resolved even if I kept getting new router/modems. I can't keep wasting so many hours of my time with this problem and tech support. I just want to be able to print! I tried to chat with them tonight and ask what my options were for returning the printer/getting a refund (warranty is up in 8 days) and that is the first time in this whole process that I asked about a refund. He/She immediately went on the defensive and said it's a communication problem regarding the network and there's nothing they can do and he/she ended the chat session saying it was due to network failure and that was a total lie because my internet connection was working fine on my laptop, phone and everyone else's laptop in the house. HP just doesn't want to refund my money for a defective product. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. By the way, my mother has the exact same printer and also gets printer offline messages all the time too. It's garbage.

Printer is not totally compatible with Mac OS Big Sur as was told. It works with the mac but you cannot access the computer from the printer. Message appears that you must download software and drivers. The mac will not let you download. Have talked with Apple and HP. No one could solve this problem. You can go into the computer and scan from there. Very disappointing.

    Terrible product, terrible instructions

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

HP is more interested in selling printer ink than quality printers. The set up instructions are terrible and the online help literally consists of hawking the HP printer ink program. The touch screen is not meant for fingers. Touched English and it went to Spanish. It took an hour to correct because there is no screen option to go back and re-select. Tried the on-line HP set up to correct and it kept coming back that it was unsuccessful and to use the printer touch pad. Which by the way was in Spanish. One problem after another in the set up. The computer would not recognize it in the network. Back to the sensitive small screen touch pad. When I finally connected to the internet the test print page would not. The error message was the picture paper tray was not properly set . After several attempts to correct I had had enough. Out of frustration I literally tossed it into a garbage container. Its landing resulted in an un-returnable product. Before destroying it I should have thought about the $129 I wasted . Oh well. This would have been my 3rd HP printer and I should have know better. Never again.

    Short Lifespan

I loved this printer, but it only lasted 2 years which seems egregious to me. There was no drop where it could possibly have gotten damaged, I just didn't use it for a few weeks and when I booted it up again it wouldn't load past the first dot. Even with the attempted solutions on the forum, it wouldn't work. Incredibly frustrating. It fit every need I had, but I'm gun-shy on taking another risk on this or another HP printer.

    WORST PRINTER EVER.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Absolute worst printer I've ever owned in my life. If I print black and white, I have maybe a 50% chance of it actually printing the document. If I try color, 0%. It doesn't even throw up an error, it just prints maybe half a page and quits. No error message or anything. I used to spend hours troubleshooting it just to get the most basic job printed, but now I've given up. There's always some new problem. It's an absolute crapshoot whether anything prints at all - most of the time it says it's printed successfully while the printer does absolutely nothing. I would try to return it, but frankly, after all the frustration and stress it's caused me over the six months I've owned it, I'd rather accept the wasted money and at least have the momentary pleasure of violently taking a sledgehammer to this insanely irritating product.

Is too expensive; function screen too small

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

As the title says, the ink cartridge lasts a very short time making printing extremely expensive. The screen for functions is so small and the key are not sensitive enough to touch making it difficult to carry out tasks, especially when in a hurry. IF you have a vision problem, this unit is definitely not for you.

      Hi John,

It's unfortunate to hear that you've not had the experience you expected to with the printer. We always hold ourselves to a high standard of reliability with our printers, so I want to assure you that we'll be here to help with this in whatever way we can.

First, I'd really quickly like to address your concern about ink usage. Given the ink lasts for a shorter time than expected, you might consider using the draft mode and black and white settings to save ink. If you find the printer's still using quite a bit, Instant Ink might just be worth a try. Many customers like our available plans. They're based on how many pages you print monthly, ultimately saving you money: HPinstantink.com

If there's anything else that we can specifically assist with, please remember that you can always reach out for support. We're always here and would be more than happy to help you make the most of your experience with the printer. You can get in touch with us via your preferred method at this link: hp.com/contactHP

HP Envy 7855 Printer......don't get one!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

If there were a way to go less than 1 star that would be my rating. I have two of these printers and both share the same issues with the inability to print consistently. Streaking, undistinguishable, no print at all are the typical results when using copy or print mode. I could even get past the fact that at the rate of pages per ink cartridge this has to be the most expensive copy/print machine on the market. I assumed the first black cartridge was the "cost saver" shipped with the machine but after using 3 more for a grand total of about 60 pages of print over a 1.5 year time frame I surmised that this is just a "boat anchor" and deserves a watery grave. I have owned 10 or more HP printers through the years but never again........

Had the printer for over a year, not it states paper jam and there is no paper anywhere. Almost tore the printer apart, looking for where the paper jam is. Couldn't find any issues anywhere. Went to the website, watched all youtube channels, and did everything, but still the same issue. Called HP, which their phone number isn't on their site, and got bounced around. Customer service is horrible. Also tried to cancel the ink subscription, but the button on the website doesn't work, had to chat with someone to get it done. If you making stickers or running a business and they state this is the printer to have, save time and don't buy it.

Ink, realignment, dirty cartridges, privacy issues

Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed.

I've had this printer for just over a year, and I am not satisfied. Buyer beware with HP printers -- they now want you to download and install the HP Smart to use the scanner functionality. To use the app (and the scanner you paid for), you must agree to let HP monitor and sell your information. If you install the app on your phone, this includes your phone's marketing ID and biometric information like your stride, height, weight, and all the other things your phone tracks without you knowing it. You cannot use this printer's full functionality without giving HP some very personal information and allowing them to sell it to others -- even though you paid for it. Additionally, I am constantly having to buy new ink cartridges for this printer, which goes through them at an absolutely prodigious rate. Lately I've had to realign and clean the cartridges at least once a week. I feel like HP made a bad product with a bad deal for buyers. I'm dissatisfied enough that I plan to never purchase another HP again.
