Do NOT Trust BB rating: OB standards are Low

Went for an Open-Box deal and that was a MISTAKE and reflects poorly on Best Buy. I purchased an "Open Box rated Excellent" and had problems from the start. I received it yesterday after ordering on 11/28. It shuts off if I even set it down the slightest bit hard on the softest couch I own (and when I pick it up again). Then, strange colored boxes would appear on the internet browsing screen as pictured below (yes, I tried updating, restarting, and even resetting the computer). Obviously this is what I get for trying out open box and trusting Best Buy's rating. If this item was listed as "Excellent" I would hate to see their "Good." BEWARE Open Box! Additionally though: the actual laptop itself is a bit weird for me. The keyboard is odd and the power button is right next to the delete and enter buttons (which seems to me to be an accident or frustrating situation waiting to happen). The keys are soft (which is okay but still noteworthy) and the color is not really Nightfall Black at all, more like an odd sort of chrome brown black? Needless, to say I will be returning ASAP.

A great computer for the price upon first few uses. Quickly developed keyboard and mouse pad glitches. Screen cracked without the laptop being dropped or roughly transported. Very light use of it. Very fragile product, would not recommend.

Software sucks, hardware too. I bought it, had to return it because screen was malfunctioning. Second one is not working properly either. Save yourself the time of having to deal with this problematic laptop and buy something different.

To me the screen is very good, it seems really bright at full under direct lighting. The laptop feels fast , i will play some games on low settings casually on this. WELL the Speaker is Awesome they'ave added two bottom speakers total 3 up 2 down (last year only 3 up), i dont know why it got some bad reviews around here. Hp tweaked something in this Gen make it the window looks and feel more Premium compared to last year mordel 3700u that i have been using. i looks at the setting there's 7.6GB usable compared to my 3700U model which is at 2GB loss. the bad part i think Bestbuy owes us. False Description saying this comes with Wifi 6, Thunderbolt port.. Also Bestbuy didnt include a HP pen, like HP does if you shop on their site. 1 star off for BestBuy part , but definitely Great Laptop i got this on sale. i meant Great Laptop, not good Color is some what similar to LAst Year model, but Still brownish but finish is Flatter more premium. The build there is ABSOLUTELY no Flex on the panel , everything fits tight and screen is steady like i mention Premium. Take my words for it because i have last year laptop right here to compare.

Overall, I think this would be a solid laptop for most people. I am an IT professional and a power user. However, I'll be using this laptop will be used mostly for web/office work to get me through grad school rather than for heavy workloads. For that use, it's a good fit for me. But there are some weaknesses to be aware of in case they are something you might care about. Pros: -Fast. I singled in on this laptop because of the brand new Ryzen 4500 processor, fast RAM, and NVMe SSD. -Feels solidly built. -Keyboard has a nice feel with a good layout. The keyboard backlight feature is really nice to have. The trackpad works well. I only wish the num lock key had an indicator light. -Battery life is really good so far. I haven't measured the run time, but I'm happy with it. The Ryzen 4500u processor sips power, so run time is going to be largely dependant on screen brightness. -Sound quality is much better than I would expect from a laptop. It's still a laptop, but the best I have heard. The not so good: -There are four rubber bumpers above and below the keyboard that directly contacts the display when the laptop is closed. I'm hoping these do not create marks on the display over time. -Fan noise. The laptop is aggressive with ramping the fan up. As far as I can tell the processor is barely getting lukewarm before the fans spin up. I'm running the latest firmware from HP as of this writing. I did adjust the thermal profile in the HP "Command Center" software to Quiet. I also changed the Windows power settings to more power saving options as it's fast enough. Between the two changes, fan noise is acceptable, but I still wish I had more control. Honestly, this is my biggest complaint on this laptop, but it's not a deal-breaker. -The screen. Contrast on the display is excellent and viewing angles are good. However, as other reviews have commented, the screen does not display a pure red and skews a bit towards orange. In fact, Windows reports that the screen is only a 6 bit display! Full disclosure: Photography is a hobby of mine and I have a high color-accuracy, 10bit display on my desktop: I'm picky. Color accuracy of this display is poor. If you are just going to browse the web, run productivity apps, or casually watch moves, that's probably not an issue. In fact, with the contrast, it's quite good for many applications. But if you are doing color-critical work, it's not going to cut it. It's a shame because it's powerful enough to handle some photo editing. But that's not what I'm going to use it for so I will cope with it.

I bought two for myself the wife and the kids. Let's start by saying the the Nightfall(color) is amazing in person and the aluminum feels solid and quality with a smooth finish. Performance is steller with the R5 4500 by AMD. Comparable Intel chips offer worse performance per watt at a worse price. This boils down to Ryzen having better performance at the same wattage. The 60hrtz screens has great viewing angles and decent color reproduction. The cooling solution seems sufficient with relatively quite fans the push air out the back below the screen. Speakers face down at an angle on the left and right. All of the reported issues I've seen were handled with driver and bios updates (black screens or wifi issues). My device came with Windows 10 1909. Personally I love to play video games but this is a work/business/school laptop. It's not meant for difficult to run games at medium settings. It is capable of playing games but usually at low settings. Aesthetically it's a beautiful laptop with a neat keyboard layout. (I like how even power and finger print scanner is in the same key layout). Weight wise its dense feeling the same way a 5 pound weight is and with a full aluminum body it should feel that way. The amazing part is it feels premium looks premium but didn't cost premium. The kids use it for school and the touch screen makes it really easy for them.

I have changed my laptop after almost 6 years. Overall, a really good purchase. Pros: Good touchscreen. Good performance. Quick boot time. Look and feel is great. Good speakers. Negligible noise. Cons: Really bad camera. Very grainy. Keyboard not very comfortable. Screen is glossy. So can't use under sunlight.

Super clean and fast interface, very thin and compact, well lighted keyboard, beautiful, crisp full HD display, about as small as you can make a 15.6 inch because the display on the glass screen is virtually to the end of the screen. Yes the glass shows the fingerprints more than a "plastic" screen but its also a lot nicer display, feels a lot more sturdy and wipes down cleanly and easily in a few seconds with a microfiber cloth or glasses cloth (I do it once or twice a day). I highly recommend this (after looking a lot) and at under $650 ($150 off sale), its a great buy. I use this for work and personal (heavy duty Excel spreadsheets, internet (browsing, YouTube etc.) and other common day to day uses) and its by far the best of many laptops I've owned over the years. Upgraded from an ASUS 2 in 1 with 8th generation Intel I5 and 12 GB of RAM to this HP with 4th generation AMD Ryzen 5 and 8GB of RAM. Despite the lower RAM it seems faster, probably because of the huge upgrade on the chip.

HP Envy is an all around great laptop. It’s thin , slim and not bulky. Touch screen and you can also purchase a pen to use instead of using your finger to touch the screen. The price was mid range so you get what you pay for meaning I purchased a great laptop. The speed of the laptop is quick.

No issues so far (knock on wood), good balance of features and flexibility for someone who needs more than basic but not necessarily HEAVY processing. I am very thankful I purchased this laptop. I can't say the same for the Lenovo equivalent to this HP that died at a horrible time and right after the warranty ended... age old story!

I've been using this laptop for the past few days. It's a great laptop overall! I'd recommend it to someone who is looking for something fast and portable. My startup time was clocked at 4.4 seconds, the solid state drive (SSD) really makes this laptop worth it! The Good: I love the fingerprint sensor and the backlit keyboard! I use them both daily. The fingerprint sensor is accurate and fast. Battery life is good, about 5 hours while performing normal tasks like web surfing and emails. Audio quality is really good too! Speed is great, applications open quickly and scroll smoothly. The Not So Good: The laptop is really thin which leads me to feel its a little delicate when using the touchscreen. The hinges feel sturdy but the screen does have a slight wobble as with all 2in1's. The fingerprint sensor would be better located if it were built into the trackpad rather than under the numpad in my opinion. Overall the laptop is great and I'm pleased with my purchase! Definitely recommend to anyone who's looking for a 2in1

I did have to install the internet drivers from the HP website to get this to work. I don't mind doing stuff like that and it didn't take long, but you will need a USB stick and another computer with internet connection to get the drivers if your WIFI doesn't work like mine didn't out of the box. I got mine for 709$ out the door, with tax included in that price, because it was opened box- satisfactory condition. I honestly don't see any reason why it wasn't considered excellent condition to be fair, but I'll take the deal! Once you install the wifi drivers with the other computer and USB stick, then you will want to go to the HP website and install the latest BIOS so that your internet connection will remain stable. The windows updates take a while, but once you get passed all that it really is a beast of a laptop for this price range. For perspective, this laptop got a better multi-core cpu geekbench score than my stock 4790k. That's pretty insane horsepower in a little budget laptop.

    Overall Great Laptop

    Posted .

This laptop is one of the best bangs for your buck. The Ryzen 5 provides great speeds. People say it is like an i3 from Intel, but it has the same speed as an i5 from using both. The Ryzen 5 uses 4 cores, which is very helpful for the chip. The boot up time is very fast, as well. It comes with an integrated GPU, but do not be fooled because this GPU is way better and faster than the integrated GPU from Intel. It is capable of running light graphic intense games like Counter Strike or Minecraft on high graphics with high FPS. The laptop can run medium graphic intense games like Dead by Daylight with good frames, but the setting must be on low. The laptop has great aesthetic appeal and looks very sleek. The only shortcoming is that this laptop is quite expensive, and it is much better to buy the new Intel i5 model, as it is on sale for cheaper.

I really have nothing negative to say about this. I purchased it spontaneously during my third year of college in the middle of a semester. I'm a computer science student, so it was A MUST to have a decent laptop, and since my last one stopped working, i had to get a new one. Made a great investment with this one because 2 years later and it's still working great! I love the large, touchscreen, the numpad, and backlit features most. Also the 2-in-1 feature is so fun for note taking or gaming. Im also a gamer, so being able to install multiple games and coding applications into a single laptop is a huge perk.

I got this for my mother to replace a 10 year old Asus laptop she had been using. If there had been a 16GB model available here at the time I would have gone for that she does some photo/video editing, but it can be upgraded easily enough I suppose. That's not really a ding against this model in general though, since I'm sure there are 16GB versions available. Over all this laptop is great. It's sleek, the touch screen is responsive and it folds easily. The fingerprint reader seems reliable and unlocks the system fast. The camera is quite good for a laptop in this price range. The keyboard was easier to type on than expected, considering it has a 10-key off to the side. The speakers are above average for the form factor, but not something I'd listen to music on for extended periods. Battery life seemed fine in the small amount I tested it. For the cons, it does come with a few things installed you may not want, like McAfee privacy and antivirus stuff. I didn't have to spend too long removing bloatware, but there was a little. I'm not a huge fan of the USB port on the left side. It sort of "folds open" like a lot of laptop ethernet ports you see on thinner designs. The screen is only 1080p, but let's be real that's not really a con at this price range or for anyone that won't really utilize higher resolution because of eyesight issues. Aside from that there's not much to change. I'd love another USB port, but after using this for a day while setting it up, I'd be happy to have one for myself. If you're planning to use this as a tablet, maybe rethink that. At 4lbs+ it's still too beefy to carry around for that kind of task. As the headline alludes, performance is great in general. The NVMe drive is a nice step up from even your normal SSD, and having 6 cores that can boost up to 4GHz for some better single threaded performance is nice for a little laptop in this price range. If you're a light to moderate user just needing to do web surfing, email, excel, youtube and maybe some light photo editing, this model with 8GB of RAM is going to work really well for you.

*** Microphone Mic not working out of box *** Please note the microphone doesn't work out of the box. I tried to let Windows update the driver automatically, Windows said it already had the best driver; I tried to download the audio driver from the HP website, wouldn't install because the driver isn't supported in the OS (Windows 10). I traced down to the event, it appeared that it's caused by a file oem130.inf, which stopped the microphone from starting properly. You can verify the issue if you notice that the internal microphone isn't detected, or the mic on/off button on keyboard doesn't respond, or if there is a yellow triangle under AMD Audio in the Device Manager. I finally reached out to HP support. The fix is pretty simple, go to https://www.amd.com/en/support and download and install the software. Restart a couple of times, all should work fine. It's a shame though that the microphone doesn't work out of the box. For that, I deducted one star. Other than that, the display is pretty thick. I wonder why it needs to be so thick not sure whether it's a result of the touch screen or in order to maintain the rigid. The bottom half is prefect dimension wise. But I wish the touchpad can either be shifted a little further to the left or a little smaller. Lastly, the CPU is supposed to be fairly cool, but the fan is on all the time, and gets loud under moderate load. Battery life doesn't seem to be good either. For all these, I deducted one star. That being said, it's still a good buy for the price I paid $529+tax. The build quality seems solid, and the configuration is right for the price range.
