Need more contrast on keyboard

It is hard for me to see the letters/numbers because of the lack of contrast in the keyboard. Also, the cord is plugged in on the right side. Most all other laptops I had in the past had the plug-in on the left. This set-up makes it awkward to use. The cord is almost too short to reach the outlets.
