I’ve had a number of HP printers and have always had a good experience with them. The build quality on this Laserjet Pro 4301fdw seems equally nice. I like the look of the blue front to mix things up a bit from the usual off white color. Plan accordingly for size when you decide if this printer will work for you. It’s roughly 17” wide and deep and about 15” high. It makes sense that it weighs more than our old Laserjet printer that printed black only.
Removal from the box is quite easy if you follow the directions and setup is straight forward in terms of connecting to ones wi-fi and loading on computers. In addition, the printer has ports available for fax, USB and ethernet. The 4.3” color screen is easy to read and very responsive as one uses the touch controls.
We already used the HP Smart app so this was an easy addition to utilize the print and scan features for the new printer. The printer is compatible with Macs, Windows computers and mobile devices. The printer has ports available for fax, USB and ethernet.
One hiccup I hit when trying to sign up for the free trial of HP ink was that I could not locate the printer PIN number where HP said it should be located on the printer. After not wanting to search further I eventually decided that I’m going to wait and see if our usage justifies using the Instant Ink program. I’ve found that unless one does quite a bit of printing that you’re better off just purchasing your own ink or toner. Note that HP has designed their printers to work with HP ink so I usually stick with the OEM brand to avoid any issues.
All of the key functions that one needs for personal or small business use are here. Copy, scan or fax documents in black and white, or color. Duplex printing allows one to save on paper and the automatic document feeder holds up to 50 pages. The output tray capacity is limited to 150 pages. Printing is very quick at 35 pages per minute. I especially like that the printer is quieter than other printer models I have used and the auto on/off feature is great to minimize energy use.
Paper trays are very accessible in the front of the printer with the main tray holding up to 250 sheets of paper and the multipurpose tray holding up to 50 sheets. The printer supports paper sizes of letter, postcard, label and envelopes. The ability to print in color comes at a price as there are four toner cartridges to replenish on this Laserjet Pro. At the very least you’ll likely be spending over $100 on each cartridge.
Scan and copier resolution is up to 600 x 600 and the quality thus far has been very good to meet our needs. We’d recommend this printer for a busy family or small business due to its quality, features, speed and quiet operation.

Despite showing Instant Ink on the side of the box, this printer is not eligible for Instant Ink (and yes, I know it takes toner). Otherwise, it's a great printer

Works fabulous! High Quality prints, and you can tell it is a well-constructed printer. I previously had a Canon and a Brother printer, similar price range, this is the best of the bunch!

This is the second hp printer I’ve had that did before the initial toner cartridge was empty. I took both in to get fixed. Parts are not available for a 6 month old printer. Don’t even think about buying hp. Pure garbage!

It’s easy to use. And it keeps my documents organized. And it’s safe time on paper because of the two face print automatically. And I like the scum faction because the ability to reduce the size of files.

After having returned two different Canon color laser all-in-ones due to flaky AirPrint functionality, this (notably more expensive) printer operates flawlessly. I guess you get what you pay for.

Unbelievable that there are any positive reviews! Printer is not usable. First day. Printer won't stay connected. Got critical error, thought maybe defective. Second day, got a new one. Same exact issue, same firmware issue. I updated both of these printer to the latest firmware, connected via WiFi. Within 20 min or so, it will disconnect. Reboot required to get back up. Endless cycle. Wasted 2 full days on this. Gave up. Ordered M283 which is the one I turned in to recycle due to a bad screen. I didn't want to buy another old tech item which screen can go bad. I figured I'd go with the 4301 as it has a new screen so HP must have known of some kind of reliability issue they needed to address. Anyway, M283 came in and I was up in 10 min without any issue. I'm guessing the only people giving a positive review use a direct USB cable connection. If you never connect to a network (wifi or ethernet), then I guess this printer would be ok to keep.

Initially this printer/scanner worked well….for only six months. One day it stopped printing and scanning. It would power up but none of the diagnostics would print at all. I spent hours on the phone with tech support only to get a remanufactured unit sent to me, and that unit also had the same problems plus it also made lots of noise. I tried tech support again only to bounce around in the HP phone system. Eventually i gave up and had to purchase another printer….not from HP. I did not even get a year out of this printer and my usage was low to moderate (only went through the initial toner set).

Printer locked up several times, connection issues, used less than one month, and rarely. Now it is permanently locked, will not boot up. Worked with HP, nothing helped, same with best buy. A lot of bad reviews, and the good reviews most have only had for a short time, read them. BB chat was painful.
