Garbage. This is my 2nd HP Printer and both have had issues within a year. These printers are used sparingly so it is completely unacceptable that they should have these issues.

      Hi, Arthur.

I’m sorry that you’ve encountered such difficulty with your printer, and that it’s the second time this has happened with an HP device within a year of purchase. I can’t tell from your review what specific issues you’ve faced, but I want to help you remedy the situation, so I’ll list a resource and provide some information I hope will accomplish that goal.

I recommend that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess the situation and determine the best course of action. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding.) To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:

      - Model number
      - Serial number
      - Your location
      - Case number (from any previous contact with HP support)

I'll also mention that HP printers have a one-year warranty from their purchase date that covers hardware as well as ink supplies, so if it comes to that, you might consider making use of it. You can verify the warranty using the following link:

I've had to buy several of these, they work for a short period of time (sometimes months, then sometimes weeks) and literally die. I've had two completely die with very light use (just a few pages scanned a day) and HP is of no use either.

Very Good Overall Except 2-Sided Scanning

This is very good general purpose all-in-one color laser printer for home or small office. It can even fax in case you’re dealing with someone who’s stuck in the ‘90s. One exception, however, is if you do a lot of 2-sided scanning, you’re better off getting a dedicated document scanner. More on that below. SETUP This machine is large and heavy. You’ll need a sturdy spot to hold its 41 pounds. The good news is the printer comes with all parts assembled, including the toner. The only thing you need to do is remove a few bits of tape, connect it to your network, and install drivers. The whole process should take well under 10 minutes. The printer can be set up on wifi, Ethernet, AirPrint, Cloud Print, or direct wifi. You can even email a doc to it directly. One pet peeve is during setup I opted out of registering, but still had 3 separate pop-ups asking me to register for “better support.” I wish manufacturers took their software as seriously as their hardware. PRINTING I had no trouble with general printing. The machine is louder than I expected, especially when it flips the page for 2-sided printing or copies. But it’s fast. If you’re mostly printing, this printer will serve you well. SCANNING I’ve gone paperless as much as possible. While most paperwork, bills, statements, etc… I receive are PDFs, I still get paper versions of some documents. These I scan and file in the cloud. I also am slowly scanning old photo prints when I have time. I scanned a few photo prints on the flatbed, and I was impressed by the quality of the scan. The detail and especially the color accuracy was quite high, though shifted slightly to yellow (most scanners I’ve tried shift heavily to red). For document scanning, the machine will spark joy depending on 1) if you’re scanning single- or double- sided docs, and 2) which app you use to perform the scan. On macOS, the printer manual has you install HP Smart. But there is also an older app called HP Easy Scan; and macOS has a built-in scanner utility. For single sided docs, the HP Smart app works fine. The automatic doc feeder processes multiple pages quickly. The scans themselves are fine. For double sided docs, you have to scan the top sides of all the pages, then rotate the pages and scan the reverse sides. For 2-sided scanning, HP Smart app is not very smart. Its default setting bleeds the reverse sides, and folds show up as horizontal lines. Plus, HP Smart app only gives you non-zoomable thumbnails so you don’t always see the bleeding and fold lines in the preview. But worst of all, HP Smart does not automatically reorder the pages to properly put front and back sides next to each other, nor does it let you reorder manually. All in all, it’s a terrible app for 2-sided scanning. HP Easy Scan app is a better choice for double sided scanning. The UI on this app is outdated, but at least it handles double sided docs by automatically reordering pages. In addition, the HP Easy Scan app has better brightness and contrast default levels, making pages seem whiter than with the HP Smart app. Reverse side bleeding and page folds are still a problem, though not quite as bad as HP Smart. Lastly, I tried using the Scan utility that’s part of macOS. This by far did the best rendering with double-sided pages. Its default setting for brightness and contrast eliminated page bleeds and most paper folds. Unfortunately, it does not reorder pages. The bottom line is I recommend this HP for general printing and copying. It’s also fine for occasional double-sided scanning. But if you do a lot of 2-sided scanning, get a dedicated document scanner. They are much faster and their software is tuned to correctly order pages and eliminate bleed and folds.

The HP-LaserJet is a very good printer. It is extremely high quality and works seamlessly well. Setup was very easy and for a laser printer its very good. Printing is reliable and quick. Typically printers of this size are meant for business functions and they do everything a business would need. I would recommend this for home office use and business use. Definitely a high quality printer that any body can rely on and count on for all printing, faxing and scanning needs. Also, scanning to a USB drive is a big plus for me.
