I had a different HP printer and I wanted to try something more suitable to my needs but I have experienced premature faults with my printhead which is annoying after only one year of use versus several years on my other one.

The first one i bought was broken within 30 days. The second one broke and had to be replaced after about 2.5 years. I dont understand why printers dont last long anymore. Very disappointed HP.

The printer I had research and was prepared to buy was out of stock so the BB salesman recommended this one. He said it was comparable, but he obviously didn't know what he was talking about. It is probably a good seller because it is inexpensive, but it is not worth even half the price. It randomly disconnects and the only way to reconnect is by turning it off and on again. The scans are extremely slow and poor quality. After researching this printer I find that most people have the same opinion as I do and HP seems to know about it. They just replace the printer without question if someone has problems. I am an HP fan and have bought HP printers exclusively for over 20 years, but this one really doesn't measure up to their quality standards.

    Excellent Printer-Copier-Scanner for the money!

Ink cartridges appear to be a much improved design that greatly reduces or even eliminates the possibility of damaging the electrical contacts when inserting them into the printer. There are 4 electrical contact pads at the front of each cartridge, although I am not sure if they are used to check that the cartridge is the proper type or to keep track of the amount of ink that has been used. The actual ink jet nozzles stay with the print head carriage, and the ink cartridges simply contain the sponge that holds the ink. There is an orange cap that must be twisted off before installation, and this cap can be somewhat difficult to twist off before insertion into the printer. Each color (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow) is in a separate cartridge and must be installed for the printer to work. I believe that this is because the printer tests each cartridge before printing, even if only black color is to be used on that print job. I noticed that the store where I purchased the printer did not seem to have any ink cartridges in stock (Jan. 2015). Ink levels can be estimated either by using the display panel on the printer or by using the HP Printer Assistant software on the computer. If the printer is not powered up, the software will display the last known value that it obtained the last time the printer was used. The printer has a USB port on the back, as well as a host USB port on the front, so that a USB memory stick can be plugged in. There is no SD memory slot to allow an SD card from a camera to be plugged in. The printer also features an Ethernet port, so that it can be directly connected to the Internet without going through a local computer (this feature is used for software updates and automatic ordering of new ink cartridges). I connected my printer directly to my computer via the USB port only for security reasons, so I am not able to take advantage of the automatic ordering of new ink cartridges. This is the main reason for reducing my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars. I did not use either the WiFi capability via the wireless 802.11b/g/n interface or the telephone/fax connectors located on the back. The data cables (USB cable in my situation) should not be plugged in until requested by the install program for the printer drivers. The install program will then ask what interface is going to be used and will then prompt the user to connect the data cables at that time. The printer is very fast, once it is powered up and ready to go. It will throw the printouts out on the floor, unless the output tray extender is pulled out. The printer will also do duplex printing (both front and back sides of the paper) and is a really cool feature! The software drivers allow the user to specify whether the paper should be flipped via the long edge or the short edge when printing the back side. The copier has a document feeder for copies of multiple sheets, or the entire feeder mechanism can be lifted so that a single sheet of paper can be placed directly on the copier glass. The printer automatically goes to sleep after about 5 minutes, leaving only the power indicator lit. A more complete user manual can be downloaded from www.hp.com, although it does not list the ink cartridge part numbers needed for re-ordering or how many pages can typically be printed with either the normal or extended capacity cartridges.

This does not produce quality photo prints. Also, after a few months, I received "there is a problem with the printhead." I contacted HP and they sent a "refurbished" replacement. I am experiencing the same issue again.

    Great Printer for the Money

We set out to replace our multiple machines with a basic wireless all-in-one printer/scanner/fax for home use. We did not need a pro level printer, but saw the hp pro 6830 on a Black Friday special for less $$ than the smaller home machines. Although it takes up more space, the quality is excellent, the speed is better, and it is quieter than the smaller units. One of the best features is the individual color ink cartridges (vs. a tri-color), so that you only have to replace one color at a time, saving money. The printer is primarily a document printer, so if you print a lot of photos, this may not be the machine for you. But for a home office or business, this deal can't be beat. I'm not aware of any printer in this price range that has a great reliability history, so be sure to get the additional product protection plan. It's cheap insurance if the printer should fail and need to be replaced.

Printer head error - just my luck

I bought this printer for my daughters 2015 HS graduation and she barely used it. Now I acquired it and was was excited to have a jet printer... mm..No. “Printer head error “ is all it keeps telling me. After some research I found it was supposedly a recall as long as it’s in warranty. Highly Dissatisfied because I’m just now finding this out but let’s see what customer service tells me. TBC

I would have expected better quality from an HP. This copier is slow, noisy and has connection issues with my iMac. I am not very happy, but since I waited too long, I am stuck with it.

I only had this printer 4 months before the print head died. I had to ship it to HP to be fixed. And the ink cartridges cost a fortune (probably so you'll join HP's ink club).
