I’m sorry you’ve had a poor experience with your printer. I can certainly understand why being misled by sales staff then encountering scanning difficulty would be a frustrating combination. I want to help you out of this quagmire, so I’ll suggest some resources aimed at making that happen.
First, I recommend you visit a page on our support site where you’ll find a general-purpose tool called the HP Print and Scan Doctor. If you use Windows, the tool will help identify and guide you through solutions to a wide range of common scanning as well as printing issues. Visit that page here:

I use the printer to print assignments for the classes I taking, I would guess I'm on track to print about 300-350 pages a month; this will change based on the type of classes I'm enrolled in. I enrolled in the monthly pay for print, so I don't know the cost of ink supplies at this time.
