Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the excellent print quality and ease of use of the Officejet Pro 8620. Many appreciate its wireless functionality and fast scanning capabilities, while some find the printer's size and paper tray design less convenient. The printer's noise level is also a point of concern for a few users. Overall, positive feedback on printing quality and ease of use outweighs the negative comments on size and noise.

This printer was great in the beginning. I have only had this printer since late July. Now overtime it prints it makes this horrible screeching noise.

    This is my second 8620

I purchased a second HP 8620 to replace my 8620. I have been disappointed with the quality of the printer. My last one barely made it past a year before the document feeder started to fail. I had to manually push the documents into the feeder to send a fax. At two years the print head failed and it was cheaper to buy a new printer than replace the point head. I purchased the second 8620 because I had a substantial amount of ink cartridges and the price of the printer was very reasonable. Although, it was fast and handled duplex printing very well I would purchase another printer had I not had the cartridge investment. I have owend many HP printers and this was the first one to fail so soon. I hope this two year later version is more reliable.

    HP control your printer

Changed credit cards and before I'd swapped over on instant ink got message that HP would disable cartridges if I didn't hurry up. Switched to remanufactured cartridges. After a month the printer suddenly stopped recognizing them (HP update presumably). I can't live with anyone else able to remotely disable my printer. Switching to Epson. Good business for Best Buy, but wish I'd understood before I wasted $150.

    Good value

The printer was a good value. The only issue is that the phone line for faxes is compatible with an analog line only. It doesn't support VOIP protocols for sending out a fax.

Does everything it's supposed to. Impressive scanner resolution and clarity. The double sided document feed has worked very well. Software could be better. It would be beneficial to be able to zoom in on the preview scan.

I am currently on my 4th machine with HP they have sent the others paper jam stopped the whole thing, 2 electronic issues all underwarranty but when a printer goes down everything in our business goes down we need reliable equipment this has not been. FYI CISS is the only way to go with ink for this machine as it is very expensive to operate.

No printing if Color cartridges out

To be honest, I own an HP 8600. I was satisfied with the printer till I replace the black cartridge which was $36.99 investment. A couple of weeks later - I had two color cartridges go out and it completely stopped printing! Even black does not work. To add insult to injury - every two minutes I get the following message making me stop and delete the message. "Ink cartridges depleted HP951 951 setup cyan and HP951 setup yellow. The cartridges listed above must be replaced to resume printing. HP recommends that you do not removed an ink cartridge until a replacement is ready to install. To order a Genuine HP replacement cartridge, click shop online." After spending $36.99 (extended life) I should be able to print in black. This is a poor engineering design.

    Great except...

This printer will not print on cardstock even tho HP documentation says it does. After repeated tries & HP customer support attempts to fix, the paper feeder WILL NOT feed cardstock and gives repeated printer errors saying "out of paper". I'm very disappointed & I'm not the only one who is having this problem. HP.Com forum has many such issues reported. My printer is only 2 months old. The main reason I bought it is to replace my previous HP8550 Officejet Pro all-in-one that printed cardstock beautifully.

Purchased 12/2015. Easy set up. Had to change 3 ink cartridges today & received error message (cartridge damaged) for 2 out 3 cartridges. I purchased HP Ink through Instant Ink. Tried new HP cartridges still received error message. Finally contacted HP Customer Support & IM'd for an hour. Resolution - HP is sending a new print driver. I am unable to use my printer now with the error message. Printer is slow. My HP F4440 was faster. I went to the HP Forum and there are several users out there with the same problem. Hopefully a new print driver will correct the problem.

    HP has lost its way

    - it lasted 18 months. 4 sets of cartridges - Consumer reports lists HP 8600 series as "most expensive printer on earth" because it wastes half the $$$$ cartridge cleaning print heads - scan to web feature does not work. produces blank scans - annoying paper catcher pullout is never pulled out, spits paper on floor - refuses to work if just 1 cartridge is dry. I mean, ALL functions do absolutely NOTHING if 1 cartridge is dry. - my printer is making grinding noises after 2000 pages and is ruined - this is our 5th and final HP printing product. Goodbye HP!

Not what I expected at the price

I went in to buy the much more expensive laser jet version and the sales guy talked me into saving money by buying the 8620. It printed lighter then darker in alternating 1" bands, and sometimes the paper would wrinkle up out of the feeder. This one just may have been defective, but I didn't chance another one. I returned it and upgraded to the much more expensive laser jet version that I wanted originally.

Six months into my brand new 8620, which was working flawlessly, I changed the ink cartridges. That was last time it worked! Beware the "Printer Failure..." message, HP speak for "You're printer is toast, and we won't fix it without trying to charge you, and Best Buy will just pass you to our woefully inadequate support department". But I have some new ink cartridges I can't use. Google this error message if you are considering this printer.

I bought the printer in June of 2014 for a PC running Windows 8.1. Print jobs kept getting stuck in the queue. Called HP many times. They would fix it and it would just happen again a little while later. I was told by HP supervisor that I would have to downgrade to Windows 8.0 to stop the problem and that it was a software issue. If Best Buy website says that it is compatible with 8.1, why do I have to downgrade?

    If offered the 8620 run

8620 claims to have a rather fast PPM. It is slow. My 8620 prints at about 1 PPM. HP support is not available. Even the install disk would not install full print installation on my HP Envy T17 and HP cannot help. Connect direct or via internet both run slow. Printer usually stalls in middle of operation. If someone recommends, run, don't look back...just run. Run like the wind.
