It's not a great gaming laptop but it does play most games. I feel like the price for it, it should have been better. It was light, ran a little warm but I returned it for a nicer gaming laptop at a cheaper price since my other one was on sale. I wouldn't recommend unless it's under 1k.

I have been researching gaming laptops for about a month now, trying to get the most bang for my buck. I must say that I am an Apple Mac lover, but my research was only pulling up PCs. I decided to elicit the help of my kids in this quest. (They have been gaming longer than I have.) Despite my research, I still decided to purchase the new MacBook Air. I bought the model with 1.1GHz Quad-Core Core i5 Processor and 8GB RAM. I installed and fired up Minecraft Java Edition. What a huge disappointment! The game was running at 16-20 FPS and had a horrible lag. I returned it to Apple. Back to my research. I next purchased a Dell G3, with very similar specs as this HP Omen, including the exact same graphics card. The main difference was that the G3 had a 10th Generation Intel Core i5 (8MB Cache, up to 4.5 GHz, 4 cores). Installed and fired up Minecraft again. Much better than the Mac, but still not quite what we expected. Minecraft was running at about 30-60 FPS. I must say that the cooling fan was very loud too. Meh! Then the HP Omen popped up. Upon receiving the Omen, we were cautiously excited. The specs looked awesome and I was anxious to see how this PC, and the AMD Ryzen 7, would compare to the Intel processor. Once again, we installed and fired up Minecraft. It immediately ran at 90-120 FPS. WOW!!! It was so smooth and beautiful. We tweaked some of the video settings in the game, including the render distance, and we were hitting close to 200 FPS. The cooling fan kicked on, but I felt it was fairly quiet and didn’t really bother us at all. So far, we are super impressed with this HP Omen, but it’s time to really give it a test. On to Fortnite. We play Fortnite on Xbox and the Switch, but have never dared to try it on a laptop. We installed Fortnite and crossed our fingers. The Omen handled this graphics-intense game fairly well, though you could see a slight lag during game play. At this time, the game was running at around 60 FPS. We did some research on how to improve this and found that we can adjust the frame rate limit in Fortnite video settings. We changed it to 144 FPS, went back into a game, and it was now running at 144 FPS. WOW! Super excited now! We went back into the video settings and changed the Frame Rate Limit to unlimited. Now the game is running at around 200 FPS. We played a couple games and it was beautiful. So smooth and responsive. It was around this time that I noticed that the laptop was done charging so I unplugged it. Surprisingly to us, the FPS went down to around 80. We’ve never had a gaming laptop before this whole experience, so this surprised us. We connected the power again and the FPS went back to around 200. Not sure if this is normal, but there you have it. During all this playing around, the cooling fan increased a bit, but never to a point where it was a bother. HP seemed to have included an exceptional cooling system. We went into the Omen Command Center, while playing Fortnite at 200 FPS to check out the performance. The GPU Utilization was at 72% (141°f). The CPU Utilization was at 30% (176°f). Memory Utilization was at 55%. I feel like we threw some heavy game play at this Omen and it handled it like a champ. We are so happy with this laptop that we purchased a second one.
