Performance takes a downward spiral after a month

The HP Omen 15 2020, where do I start? The first few days were great! After about a month everything turned from sunshine and rainbows into a lag induced hell.. the performance was worse than a 980 and just randomly black screened/blue screened out of nowhere.. luckily with my best buy elite membership (adds 1-2 month extra time to your warranty) I was able to get an exchange! But, yet again this model came with its own issues, anything I did, any game I played the laptop just stayed at 30-50fps, the spiked up to 120 max.. I made sure the drivers were installed, I put every setting on max performance, and the thermal throttle was insane.. please just buy a desktop, or if you really need a laptop just spend an extra $100-200 on a razor blade or a MacBook.

Amazing graphics! My son spends 8-10 hrs a day gaming. This laptop is perfect for every game. The colors are vibrant and there is absolutely no screen lag. The processor is lightning fast with no delays in switching from one activity to another. Great for streaming gameplay and filming walk through videos. My son has an Alienware desktop but now prefers this laptop, not just for it’s portability but because he truly experiences better gameplay. The sound quality is also pretty awesome! My son watches tutorial videos and doesn’t need to use headphones anymore to get good sound. The battery life is better than expected, with constant gameplay/streaming he’s consistently getting 5-6 hours. It only takes about 45 minutes to charge back up. I would highly recommend this laptop for the true gamer who wants a longer lasting battery, great sound quality and an amazing visual experience.

Working fine for the first two months. Now keeps dropping Internet. Apparently it's a common problem with this HP Omen because there's lots of posts on Google about it. While the customer service of HP were polite and professional. It's still a problem.

Had to send the laptop in for repair. Had issues from day one. First had audio issues fixed that with update no issues since. Kept getting a black screen during boot up. It’s been out for repair for almost a week.

I've only had this laptop for 4 months and the keyboard is already acting up. Sometimes when I'm playing my games, the key will suddenly stop responding. Obviously I use WASD the most, but this shouldn't be an issue this soon for a laptop that was this expensive. 1 star for the horrid issue this creates since I bought this laptop for gaming and now can't even game reliably.

Great looking laptop but has many issues. I had to switch it out because the first one came with a broken trackpad out the box and now I had to send my laptop to HP because it is overheating on idle. I would see temps of 70+ degrees C on idle and 90+ while gaming. Since the idle temps spike up the fans kick on very loudly constantly. So far not enjoying this "gaming" laptop

Excellent build quality and blazing speed

If you're looking for a quality laptop, the HP Omen with Ryzen 7 4800H is the way to go! The build quality is nothing short of SOLID -- as in solid metal! It doesn't feel like it will break easily if it were dropped. Built with speed in mind, the HP Omen is a beast when it comes to gaming and/or performing office work! One of the biggest reasons I like this 'gaming' laptop is that it doesn't stand out as a 'gaming' laptop. It doesn't scream "Everyone look how cool I am. I'm a gamer!" The minimalist design is a step above the rest, from the OMEN symbol on the shell to the lettering/numbering/text on the keyboard. I work as a full-time IT Admin and my productivity level has gone off the charts with this thing. I don't feel slowed down while offering remote support or when configuring Azure server VMs remotely. So again, if you are looking for speed, stick with the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H in this baby. It is outperforming even the i9-10000 series Intel CPUs when it comes multi-threading, which more and more software is now capable of taking advantage of (single thread Intel is still the leader). The only minor annoyance with this machine is that it came with Win 10 Home instead of Pro from factory, but that was very easily addressed by purchasing an upgrade key.

Beast of a laptop perfect for gaming!

The Omen gaming laptop certainly looks the part. It’s dark and menacing, and one can tell right away that it’s not your typical Word or Excel digital paper-pusher. Unboxing was ridiculously easy, with the laptop and two-piece power cable being the only items. Plugging in to start charging was required, as there wasn’t enough juice to get things booted up on its own. On startup, though, the evidence that this is a serious piece of machinery became even more evident. The keyboard is backlit with different colors for the number pad, function keys, and QWERTY keys, with the WASD keys standing out using their own illumination. Getting things set up took some time due to the required downloads and updates, but even that was only a few hours. I was surprised, however, about the number of duplicate questions to get everything set up; I felt like I opted out of a lot of the same things, repeatedly. There were a lot of unnecessary programs bundled in that also had to be removed as this is a dedicated gaming piece, not a productivity machine. Once things were situated, downloading and installing games went ridiculously quickly. Full disclosure, I’m using a 500/500 network, so that plays a role, but installation was also a breeze. A nice treat was also being able to download my profile from the prior laptop, so I didn’t have to go through and set up preferences all over again. As far as the actual gaming goes, this is a beast. The graphics are stunning, and I never had to worry about pixelization or lag, and scrolling and panning motions were fluid, even in multiple directions at the same time. Colors are bright and vivid, and when games want you to think three-dimensionally, it appears very realistic. Overall, this is a great purchase when used for gaming. I’m sure that as a computer, it handles business functions admirably, but you’d be wasting a lot of the potential that the hardware has to offer.

After just over 2 years, the laptop display just working. Not just the laptop disply, I can't use an HDMI with a monitor or anything. And It's out of warranty, so I'm SoL. Pretty expensive machine to just up and quit after 2 years.

This computer was nice for a while and then one day completely stopped working for no reason. I spent hours on the phone with Microsoft trying to get it past the startup screen- restore, complete reset, etc. Nothing worked.

Horrible. Had for about 3 months now and it's up to 5 times completing locking up. Only way to recover is to hard boot with the power button. This is during normal use, not when playing any games. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!
